As much as I love to be outside catching rays and hitting the pool over the summer, I’m definitely not opposed to escaping the heat and going to see a movie a few times throughout the summer. I’m pretty picky though when it comes to seeing movies out in theaters, it isn’t like a DVD or a Netflix film I can turn off if it becomes too corny or just plain stupid. Good news, though, this summer, in my opinion, is rolling out some pretty solid films that can interest a plethora of audiences. The last movie I saw before class got out for the summer was "Star Wars" (definitely a must see) in December, but I’ll be making the trip to the cinema a handful of times this summer to see some of these films.
I was a bit skeptical towards another live action real life remake of a Disney classic "Tarzan" because those sort of movies can be pretty hit or miss, but this unlike most Disney remakes piggybacks off the original film which in my opinion makes it much more intriguing. In this film, Tarzan returns back to Africa as a trade ambassador as a scheme to which ends up turning into a trap. Besides, who doesn’t love a movie Samuel L Jackson stars in anyway? With an electrifying trailer and a studded cast list, "The Legend of Tarzan" seems to me to be interesting enough to go see this upcoming Friday.
A movie coming out on the same day, which might call me to stay for a double header at the theaters is "The Purge: Election Year," I was a huge fan of the first two and have been so fascinated by how the creators of this movie are able to come up with some interesting plots to such an outrageous concept. They’ve continuously stepped up their game and this one looks like the most terrifying yet. This movie isn’t for everyone, I wouldn’t recommend taking your beloved mother or significant other to see this one, but if you want to be my guest! I’m very excited to see how the third "Purge" rebounds from the last movie and how much more badass they can make Frank Grillos’ character. Huge fan.
Finally, the movie I’ve been patiently waiting for its premier since last summer is "Suicide Squad." And I know a lot of people think this world is a better place without another superhero movie, but really how can this movie not interest you??? But a scheme where incarcerated cunning and violent super villains being used at the government's disposal to in turn to use for good has got me very excited. This is the most important role for Jared Leto, whose kind of a poor man’s Justin Timberlake due to his fame from his music and acting career and the first time his characters’ role isn’t about getting beat up or killed (Fight Club, American Psycho). Along with that an action movie with Will Smith is exciting enough, and Margot Robbie is one of my favorite actresses and it doesn’t hurt that she’s absolutely stunning. Long story short my bold opinion is this is David Ayer’s best movie yet, has an amazing soundtrack and will be a great way to cap off a summer filled with solid movies. Besides those other movies that could be worth seeing are: "Free State of Jones," "Jason Bourne" and if you adore Mila Kunis as much as I do, maybe go see "Bad Moms" then too.
