The moviegoing season has already begun, with Thanksgiving and Black Friday just having passed. I and several people I know have already took advantage of the holiday season and new movies in theaters to buy some tickets and popcorn and watch a few of the newest blockbusters. Here are a few promising movies to look out for this season, along with a few that have already hit the theaters.
1. Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them
I put this movie first simply because I am absolutely a Harry Potter fan. Even if you are like me and have not read or watched the series in years, this fun and original "spin-off" movie (that will eventually become a five-movie series) is sure to entertain the imagination. The plot and characters are fresh, but still tied enough to the original Harry Potter series that a fan will appreciate it. Eddie Redmayne stars as the protagonist Newt Scamander for this new addition to the Harry Potter universe.
2. Doctor Strange
Though I have not read the original Marvel comics for Doctor Strange (and cannot speak for its accuracy), I will say that this movie was exciting, mind-blowing, and very creative. I recommend this movie for anyone who enjoyed watching movies like Inception and the Matrix and/or anyone who is interested in different takes on our universe. Benedict Cumberbatch stars as Doctor Strange in this movie about a surgeon searching for a treatment for his hands and instead stumbling upon an entirely new reality.
3. La La Land
Anyone who has not yet seen the charming and enticing trailer for this upcoming romantic drama needs to watch it right now. With its phenomenal casting of co-stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, whose work in previous movies serve as testament to their chemistry, and a promising jazzy soundtrack, this movie is set to be one of this year's best romance films.
4. Moana
I have heard much about this recently released Disney film centering around the female protagonist Moana, an adventurous girl from the South Pacific who voyages across oceans with a demi-god at her side. The film seems to live up to its predecessors as a Disney movie, since it has received mostly positive reviews so far and features beautiful animation, as expected.
Hope you enjoyed this brief list of the movies I have liked and am looking forward to. Happy theater-going!
