Movies to Watch

Everyone likes to go to the movies over the winter break. It's one of those things that all families around the world loves to do when we all get together for the holidays. To help make this easier for people to see these films, I will list five films that would be fun for everyone to see during the winter. These films are judged by the content of them and will give films that can be watched by the entire family and films that can only be watched by adults. Without further ado, here are five films to check out:

1. Star Wars-Rogue One

Another Star Wars film has been made. For those of you who are fans, make sure to check this film out, for those of you who aren't, I still highly recommend. This is a film that is not apart of the original saga, but if we are talking about order of the films, this film takes place before the 4th Star Wars film A New Hope. Starring Felicity Jones and Forest Whitaker, the film takes place in the star wars galaxy and a rebellion is starting. The rebels are trying to steal plans to destroy the death star and save the galaxy once again. This will be some good family fun and I would definitely recommend this to children and adults alike.

2. Arrival

From what I have been told, this is the best film that has come out this year. The film received a 94 percent on rotten tomatoes which means that this is a must see film. The film is also rated PG-13, so it is good for kids and adults. Starring Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner, this films is about a mysterious spacecraft touching earth and a team of specialists being brought together to investigate this mystery. Another Sci-fi epic to end 2016, but is still something worth watching this winter.

3. Dr. Strange

Another film coming from Marvel Comics and joining the collection of films that have been made over the years. This film has academy award nominee Benedict Cumberbatch, who will be playing the main role as Dr. Strange. This marvel comic is about a former surgeon named Stephen Strange who becomes a sorcerer under the power of a mystic known as the ancient one and the films turns into a lot of fun action and adventure for the family. Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a 90 percent. From all of the reviews it has received, this could be a cool film to watch.

4. Deepwater Horizon

Mark Wahlberg teams up with Director Peter Berg again in another film about an American Tragedy that occurred in our history. This is about April 20, 2010 when the largest man made disaster occurred in the gulf of Mexico and how there were many heroes who saved many lives. Mark Wahlberg plays one of theses heroes. The film has been in theaters for a while, so this could be the first film that you may want to see before it leaves. This could be more of a film for adults, but still is only a rating of PG-13. Other than that, it received a solid rating of 84 percent on Rotten Tomatoes so it is definitely worth the watch.

5. The Founder

This film is not coming out until January 20, but this should be the last film to see during this winter. I do predict some Oscar nominations, but it may be too soon for that. But here is what I do know. This is the story of Ray Kroc and how he formed the franchise for the most famous fast food restaurant around the world which is McDonalds. Michael Keaton stars in the film, who has made a big comeback in cinema in the past few years and also has stars such as Laura Dern and Nick Offerman. This could be the must see film of the year and it is one of those films that are at the top of my list. I recommend to everyone and I hope I am able to learn something after watching this film.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
