Emma Roberts…
Dave Franco…
In a movie….
Together.
But really, does it get any better? July 27, 2016, a phenomenon was released. A movie called “Nerve.” Starring, well you guessed it, Emma Roberts and Dave Franco.
What first pulled me into deciding to see this movie, besides the cast, of course, was the incredible trailer. From fantastic song choice to insane action and modern-themed picture, this trailer left you with nothing but desire to see the movie.
If you haven’t heard of the movie, or just don’t know what exactly it’s about, I’ll tell you. The movie centers around Venus, A.K.A. Emma Roberts, the shy, down-to-earth, photography-loving girl. She has a best friend, Sydney, who is the complete opposite. Rambunctious, risk taking, you name it. And that is what leads us to the game… Nerve. Nerve is an app found on the smart phone, almost based off of truth or dare, except with no option of truth. Just strictly dare. When choosing between “watcher” or “player” on the Nerve home screen, one can either watch the game or play the game. Playing the game requires strength, willingness and determination. Oh, and one more thing… the ability to deal with fear.
When Sydney pisses off Venus to her furthest extent, Venus finally decides to play. Especially after listening to her mom drag on and on about how their money situation is suffering. She decided playing Nerve was the right route to go. Why? Because each dare rewards you with a certain amount of money -- ranging from $100 to $25,000 or more. Venus told herself she’d quit after the first round, but once that round draws her to another game player, Ian, she just can’t seem to quit.
Ian brings out another side of Venus. The side she always knew she had, but didn’t know how to portray. But this new side of Venus almost starts a new revolution. "Nerve" is a modern day movie based on the excessive usage of cell phones by teenagers mixed with the plot of "The Hunger Games."
Going into this movie, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I knew I was excited, but I wasn’t positive I’d just love the movie. To my surprise, this movie turned into being possibly one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. From the soundtrack, to the cast, to the unbelievable plot line… I was on the edge of my seat for 90 percent of the movie. The suspense of the movie kills you and leaves you breathless the whole time.
I highly recommended "Nerve," as it is now one of my absolute favorites.
