Move Over Instagram, DYSH Is Taking Over

Do you ever feel shammed when posting a photo of your food on Instagram? Or do you ever not post a photo of your food for the fear of other people being annoyed and unfollowing you?

Or possibly you are on the other side of this, you hate your insta feed getting filled with people’s food but you secretly love looking at it all. Maybe you would rather reserve your Instagram feed for photos of golden retrievers and not lusting over ice cream. This could probably get confusing if one minute you are drooling over that meal your bffl posted and then your staring at a puppy. Those shouldn’t make you hungry.

That’s why DYSH is here to save the day!

The creators of the app partnered with the one and only holy trinity of YouTube: Grace Helbig, Hannah Hart, and Mamrie Hart, in order to create DYSH. A place specifically made for food spam.

These three ladies have tagged this app by saying it’s what happens when Instagram meets Yelp. AKA awesomeness.

It is a very easy to use app that not only allows you to post photos of your food and stalk what other people are eating, but you can look up food by location to see what other people are DYSHing near you. You can search by restaurant or by Dyshes as well as scroll through a feed (much like insta) of people you follow. Each week there is a DYSH tag to encourage you to DYSH something that has to do with it. The fun part of this is that they are always a catchy pun like #LETSTACOBOUTIT or #HOWTOGETAWAYWITHBURGER. There is even an explore page which could come in handy if your having trouble thinking of where you want to eat, what you want to eat, or even what sounds good to make for dinner.

When posting a DYSH you can write where you are eating what you ordered, comments and tips, and rate it. On a scale of 0 to 100 you can rank it to let others know if it is worth ordering. Don’t want to post it right away and potentially offend others at the table with you, not a problem, you can also save it for later.

Wanna know the best part, by posting a meal you ate, commenting, liking other dyshes, or connecting DYSH to your other social media accounts you donate meals to those in need. Each of these things racks up points and after so many points meals get donated to the hungry. That’s right, by simply using an app you can donate meals to those in need. So far DYSH has donated over 10,000 meals. That’s right! It’s incredible.

There is really no reason not to use this app, and even if you’re still not sold here’s another reason. I need more people to follow. I need friends. So follow me on DYSH @msmckeown, or comment below your handle. Together we can lust over food and help people in need.

But be warned...I mainly just post about ice cream and coffee.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
