With the semester almost coming to an end, tensions run high for most of us! We worry about presentations, deadlines, meetings, classes, homework, chores, jobs, social lives, fitness, and much, much more! In the midst of all this chaos, there is barely any time to sit back and enjoy some peace and quiet. The urge to run in a million directions at the same time and try to complete all these tasks at once is what causes students to crash and be so stressed. Even though we all have many responsibilities, we have to take a breather every now and then and slow down. So here are some useful tricks and ways to de-stress and go with the flow!

1. Dancing!

Who doesn’t love dancing? When you’re so wound up and tense, the best way I see is to just let loose and feel the music. It helps you smile and releases all your tension. Put on some of your favorite songs and dance your heart out!

2. Talking your feelings!

Always remember that calling a best friend or a relative is not too hard. Just pick up a phone and have a conversation to lighten your mood. Friends and family are always an excellent support system to cheer you up!

3. Go out jogging or take a walk!

A walk or a run is the most calming feeling. You are alone with your thoughts and this is such a laid-back way to enjoy the outdoors and get a breath of fresh air, plus it’s very good for your health!

4. Read an interesting novel!

Like many others, I am a big reader! I mostly read romance, mystery or crime novels! It’s an easy and exciting way to escape your daily hassles for a small period of time and enjoy another world!

5. Start up a new Netflix show!

As a lot of people in our generation, I admit that I am hooked on most Netflix shows too! There’s such a huge variety of shows available on Netflix, everything from rom-coms to sitcoms and crime shows! You can pick your favorite and get hooked!

6. Work on your hobbies!

I know there isn’t much free time in a busy schedule, but self-care is very important! If you can’t take care of yourself, then how can you complete all your responsibilities? So, remember to go bicycling, do some painting, play a video game, or even take a soothing bath!

7. Meditate!

It is a well-known fact that there are multiple, countless benefits of meditation! It helps increase your focus, decrease tension and stress, and helps you find calm and peace! Yoga or meditation shows increased memory power and great amounts of weight loss, so those are some other pluses on the side!

8. Write it out!

For a lot of people, writing down their day to day stressors helps them express their feelings of frustration or tiredness in a positive way. If you feel like you’re having a very bad day and you want to explode on something, then why not your journal. Pour out your concerns and thoughts and it will make you feel a lot better, guaranteed!

9. Listen to some tunes!

Putting on your favorite songs and singing along is the best!! A loved song always puts people in a great mood and brings a smile to your face! It’s also one of the easiest and most popular ways to de-stress!

10. SLEEP!

Contrary to what a lot of millennials believe, pulling all-nighters is not the best way to go! This causes you to crash and forget tasks and info! If not at night, then a quick nap is key to feeling fresh and lets you restart the day all a new!

It’s important to remember that we are not some kind of robots or superhumans that can be everywhere at once! I know that a lot of us have multiple responsibilities to do all the time, but it’s important to remember that some things are always going to slip from our hands, even if we try to hold on tightly. Next time you’re stressed or worried, be sure to check out some of these amazing tips and remember to let loose a little!

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…

If you go to or went to Kent State, then more than likely you have done or will do some of these things.

1. You’ve slipped and fallen on the ice at least once.

The winters at Kent are brutal, and while the heated sidewalks and some great snow boots are always a help, there’s no chance you won’t bust it on the ice at least once in your four plus years at school.
