As move-in-day nears, college students everywhere are excited about the upcoming weeks. Not because the idea of 8 a.m.'s, papers and homework up to your ears is so appealing, but because being back at college with all your friends is kind of like that feeling you get when you get the last slice of pizza, or you find out your 8 a.m. is cancelled. Nothing but pure joy. Summer is a time to take a break from all the stress college can hold, but sometimes you find yourself missing being able to run down the hall or run two steps to the other dorms on campus to hang out with your friends. All of those late nights, cram sessions, parties, and movie nights are being missed more and more as the school year gets closer. In less than a month, we will be back on campus and if you're anything like me, you have an app that is counting down the days for you, so you know exactly how long you have to hold out.

For all those incoming freshman, the thought of leaving home can be scary and overwhelming. On the other hand, you couldn't be more excited to start the new journey of your life. All the feeling will hit, but some advice about moving in is to not stress about everything you need. You will be stressed enough over the year. Trust me. Don't fret over the little things you are forgetting. Thats what mothers are there for, I promise if you don't remember something, they will, or if they happen to forget they will run and get it while your unpacking like my mom did. Three trips and baby bed rails. Thats all I'm going to say. But seriously, don't worry about, you probably have more stuff than will fit in your freshman dorm anyways. So quit stressing.

For all the rest of us, well we haven't even took a thought about what we need and will probably just wing it as we go... or maybe that's just me. But the excitement of being back is really setting in at this point. You're probably finishing a summer job or even summer classes. You have just a few weeks left of summer break and then you're back at school for the long haul. You have group messages going about who's bringing the couch or the color scheme you want for the room. Plans are being made for whats happing the first weekend you get back on campus. So these few days are a time to enjoy with family or spend some time to yourself before exams, papers, projects, and homework take up most of your time. We know that the five tee shirts we wear every week is the highlight of our packing list, and all those nice clothes we thought we were going to wear are not. For us athletes, it's our last weeks before 6 a.m.'s, practices and games start in full motion for the year. The countdown is on and in less than a month we will be back. Enjoy your last few weeks of summer, gather up those tee shirts and I'll see you on August 29th, MC.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
