Move Over 'Harry Potter' There Is A New 'Magician' On The Block

This show includes magic, spells, witches, magicians- not the kind that does card tricks, talking animals, magical schools and doors that lead to other worlds. What’s not to like??

My boyfriend and I stumbled onto a new TV show over the weekend and we binged the entire first season. It’s on Netflix and is a SyFy original series, Magicians. If you thought that Harry Potter and Narnia were enjoyable books and movies, then you must watch Magicians. It’s like the creators of the show took elements from Harry Potter and Narnia and a little bit of Miss Peregrine and rolled it all together and came up with this brilliant show.

Here are a few comparisons:

1. Brakebills is Hogwarts

Brakebills is a magical school that is hidden in the middle of New York City like Hogwarts is hidden London. There are spells or wards to keep the school hidden from non-magical people. It’s like magic college. Students are taught to hone their magic abilities along with learning what their strengths are.

2. Fillory is Narnia

This magical land is just like Narnia. The animals talk here, and it’s filled with magic. But instead of only a wardrobe being the way in following a Chatwin will get you there through any door. I’ll leave the Chatwin’s for you to figure out. Let’s compare them to the children of the Narnia story.

3. The Beast is Voldemort/White Witch

This is the evil foe of the series. He’s horrible and cost many of the people in this show to lose their lives. You could compare him to Voldemort or the White Witch, both are evil and are set on destroying everything good in the world. The beast can travel through worlds. He’s what’s known as a traveler.

There are plenty of other comparisons between this show and movies that captivate us with magic, but I don’t want to ruin it for you. The characters in the show could be compared to other characters from Harry Potter and Narnia.

This show includes magic, spells, witches, magicians- not the kind that does card tricks, talking animals, magical schools and doors that lead to other worlds. What’s not to like?? I would explain more but I don’t want to ruin the show. It’s the adult version of the movies that kids have been able to enjoy for years, well not just the kids because I’ve watched them too.

Each of the characters in this show goes through their own challenges and learn to work as a team to get things done. Quentin Coldwater could easily be compared to Harry Potter. Why do you ask? That is something you will have to find out after watching the show. There are so many parallels that could be made from this show and the movies.

If you’re looking for a new show to dive into and get lost in the story, then this is it. Magicians is unlike any other TV show I’ve seen. Besides Harry Potter and Narnia there are other elements from the different Science Fiction movies/tv shows that we all grew up with. I have noticed a few things that are Star Wars and Star Trek familiar, like fragments, not the big stuff so don’t read more into that than necessary.

Take my word for it and check Magicians out. You won't be sorry.

birthday party

My birthday has never been my favorite holiday. I've found that I'm more excited to celebrate my friends' and family members' birthdays more than my own. I don't like being the center of attention, so I usually celebrate over dinner with a small group of family and friends. This way, I can enjoy myself naturally without feeling like I have to entertain everyone and make sure they are satisfied. In the past when I've had large parties, I was so nervous that people weren't perfectly content that I didn't enjoy myself at my own celebration.

College Informations

Most of us have already started the spring semester, and for those of you who haven't started yet, you suck.

It seems like coming back from winter break wouldn't really be a break all things considered, since we all come back to school and pick up right where we left off. We know exactly what to expect, yet we're unprepared every single time.

I'm serious

There are tons of unisex names that are popular: Taylor, Alex, Bailey, etc. There are also numerous names that are used for both sexes, but they’re not seen as “unisex” yet. People are slowly becoming accustomed to the dual use of these names, but for the most part, in their minds they associate certain names with certain sexes. And that leaves those of us with these names in many awkward situations.

CSU

I'm an anthropology major, and I love every minute of it. I couldn't tell you why, but I guess there's just something about studying different lifestyles that absolutely fascinates me. But anthropology majors definitely have our weird sides, especially when you go to a school that is filled with mostly Business and Bio majors. But us weirdos definitely have a lot in common, specifically these 16 things.

pale girl

Everyone has insecurities, that's just a fact. You didn't ask to be born this way. You didn't ask to inherit the one trait no one else in your family has. And you definitely didn't ask to be this ghostly white. But as soon as you've learned to live with it for a while (less wrinkles later on in life, right? right???) someone has to ruin it for you. They have to flaunt they're perfectly tanned body from Spring Break and hold their sun-kissed skin against yours. But I've had enough... here are the things that perpetually pale individuals are tired of hearing.
