Some say it is a social construct, and some claim that it does not exist, but either way, we are all victims of its wrath.
The thing with time is that we cannot control it. We cannot control the rate at which the seeds of sand in our hourglass flow. We are only allowed to choose where they flow.
Time is my favorite enemy -- which is odd, I know. But time runs together, hand in hand, with progress, and when they get to the bottom of the hill, they fall at the same time. And with progress comes a close, and an ending.
The famous quote from Dr. Seuss is, "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.” And yes, I copy and pasted that quote from GoodReads. My point is, we mourn time. We mourn lost time, we mourn past time, and some of us even mourn the future. We make time our enemy.
Personally, for me, I have found that I lack enough hours in the day. I know that I do not, but even at my most productive rates, I mourn my lack of time. I have mourned my lack of time with certain people, or my wasted time with many, but nevertheless, I acknowledge and respect the time that I have been given to do whatever it is that I am supposed to do.
So many people focus their time on trying to find their purpose, instead of living their lives as if they have already found their purpose -- even if they have not. Don’t get me wrong, both are admirable, but trying versus doing are two very different things. And I almost admire the action of doing more, because at least you are getting somewhere. Even if it is your assumed wrong destination, or not where you expected to end up, it is still somewhere.
And that takes a certain amount of bravery, and vulnerability, to link arms with both time, and progress, and just have a sliver of faith.
We are not given immortality. Because of that, time is something that is very precious. Yes, it may just be a construct, but to me, it is a delicate one.
It is not a waste of your time if you enjoy whatever you are doing, pursuing, searching for, or loving. If it makes you a better human being, and you like who you are and where your heart is, then you have found your purpose for your use of time. There comes a time when you are given the choice of what are you going to do with the time that has been given to you.
There comes a time when you have to stop using your time on the things that are not bettering you.
