4 Mottos I Live By

Take any higher-level communication course and they'll most likely tell you that each individual is a representation of every person they've met and experience they've had. So, here's a list of what the people in my life have taught me.

I'm the type of person who has always really enjoy sharing my thoughts and feelings with others and gaining new perspectives on problems, emotions, and just life in general. Through these interpersonal conversations and intrapersonal soul searching, I've been able to compile my favorite mottos, by which are easy and important to live by.

1. Live and learn.

This life lesson has been taught and preached to and by many people and often times its meaning is lost, but having this mentality is so important to have a forward-thinking outlook on life. After any experience, good or bad, it's vital to understand that you cannot change what has happened. The only thing you can do about the situation is to learn from it.

2. Be the fog.

My parents have given me this advice for as long as I can remember and what it means is that when there are bad things or people surrounding you, don't let yourself become one of them. In negative situations, you must remember to be your own person, and not to let everything else cloud your thoughts and emotions.

3. If you think you'll regret not doing it, then you should do it.

My older brother constantly encourages me to step out of my comfort zone, whether it's applying for a big-time internship or snowboarding down a black diamond when I was a preteen. Every time I make a decision, I always have this mentality in mind because living a life without regret is a goal I hope to achieve.

4. Keep in touch, even if it's awkward.

We're all guilty of thinking that if others aren't reaching out to me, then I don't need to reach out to them. But since I've been in college for a few years, I've come to realize how important it is to take the high road on this. My friends from high school and I rarely all talk every day but the occasional phone call or FaceTime or just a simple text asking how they are really can uphold a strong relationship. It's not always possible, but reaching out, even after a long time, will always mean so much more than you think.

It is that time of year again. Christmastime. It is one of my favorite seasons for a myriad of reasons. Here are just a few reasons why I love Christmas. This list is in no order of importance.

1. The Christmas decorations

I am that person who will decorate directly after Thanksgiving is over. This year, my roommates and I put the tree up in our apartment before we even left for Thanksgiving break. It is a great stress reliever for me to just sit in my living room and work on the huge amount of work I have before the semester is over.

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?
