Motivation To Get You Through These Last Weeks of School

No matter how fast your run, your responsibilities will catch up with you.

The end of the year. It's coming up quick. In less than 50 days, school will be over and the student body will be released from all academic responsibilities... well at least for a little while (summer classes, internships... is summer actually even a thing anymore?). With the weather starting to warm up and campus seeming to burst with life again, it's easy for one to become... distracted. Or in other terms, "I don't give a flying fadoodle about anything," and darty your behind off or just sit outside, basking in that warm 60 degree Michigan Spring weather.

Trust me, we've all be there and as much as you want to, you can't actually drop out of school these last few weeks. So I decided to put together some motivation to help rid the thought from your head.

1. You're So Close

You've made it this far, why throw it out the window now? You've made it through midterms not once but practically twice now AND you've survived finals once. You've survived, Halloween, Michigan versus Michigan State tailgate and St. Patrick's Day (kinda). You've also winged at least 3 of your exams throughout your class load. You are in the home stretch! We are so close to school being over, keep going!

2. It Does Matter

As much as it pains me to say this, whispering to yourself that it doesn't matter isn't going to help anyone. Your grades do matter. Don't put yourself in the mindset that they don't. Speaking from personal experience, it's a bad habit to form. Deep down you know that grades are actually important to you, because well they do matter!

3. Take It Day By Day

It gets overwhelming when you look at the month of April in your planner and see all the deadlines, exam dates, etc. Even though it's important to plan ahead so you know what's due, don't stress yourself over little tasks or exams that are over 2 weeks away. It's important to take it day by day so you don't overwhelm yourself.

4. You'll regret slacking

Nothing is worse than the feeling of regret. And nothing is worse than knowing you could have done a lot more than you actually did when it comes to school. There's a difference between putting in endless hours of studying and not doing well on an exam than studying for 45 minutes and not doing well. So save yourself the regret and the slacking that seemed like a good idea at the time and step up your game.

5. Your Future Puppy Wants You To Succeed

One of my roommates started a future dog fund, so she can afford a dog when she gets out of school. If you're anything like her, (a puppy lover, which should be everyone..) just give this a quick thought: your future puppy wants you to succeed so wherever you live you guys can live happily and peacefully.

*This is also applicable to cats.... I guess.

Hang in there people! You got this!

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
