Motivation For The End Of The Semester

These next few weeks will be trying, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Thanksgiving break has come and gone, unfortunately. Now, it's time to focus on the last few weeks of school before the semester is over.

In other words, things get real.

I'm talking about papers, finals, presentations, projects. You name it, you probably have to face it.

I don't know about you, but these next few weeks will probably be some of the most stressful weeks in my life. I'm a senior, and I am currently applying to graduate schools. I also have to balance out 3 research papers as well. So overall, I'm not going to be having a good time.

I think we all need some motivation to get through the next few weeks.

Just think about it; after this, we will have a few weeks off before having to go to school. Most of us will be going back home to see our families. Some of us will be getting jobs. Others will be taking entrance exams, applying for graduation, or applying for post-undergraduate programs.

Either way, we will all be getting some much deserved time off. Without having to deal with the stress of school work, we are free to focus more of our energy on other things in our life.

Just the thought of having nearly a month off is enough to get me through. If it isn't, here are some other things to consider.

It will be winter break. That means colder weather (hopefully). Maybe even snow if you don't live down south. I'm going to Toronto for about 9 days over break, so I'm excited to visit family and hopefully see some snow.

It's the holidays! There are so many holidays to celebrate over break. It will be a great time to spend with friends and family.

Do you miss sleeping in? So do I! Winter break is the perfect time to catch up on sleep,

My point: these next few weeks might be stressful, but it doesn't mean that there isn't something good waiting on the other side.

Don't worry; you'll get there.

I believe in you. And so should you.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
