It is officially summer and there is nothing more that you would rather do than to sleep for the next week and a half. However, you will be starting summer classes soon. It is so disappointing as you see the snap stories of your friends cruising in the Caribbean. But hey, it is going to be OK! As you take classes not only are you making strides toward your ultimate goal of graduation, but you are also meeting people that you would not have met otherwise.
As we are sitting in the first week of class it can be so dismal, but then the classes come and go. In the moment it may seem like forever but four weeks later you have completed a class. Not only are you done, but you were able to do it in a third of the time while still have some time to hang out with friends that were in town. The best part is that you still have the rest of the summer to vacation. Also, unlike a regular semester, you do not have a full class load, giving more time to social activities and maybe even a job. It is even a great time to mix summer and school activities, like studying by the pool - something that may not always be available during the regular semester. These classes give more opportunities in the future allowing extra space in your degree plan if you are considering studying abroad or graduating early. It can also connect you with people that will be a great help down the road. Perhaps the professor of the class may write your letter of recommendation for graduate school or a job that you are applying for. These connections are worth the time and effort that is put into the class.
This was a new perspective that was rarely thought of. Moving toward the goal of graduating, it is all you think about once you step on campus and they give free T-shirts with your class year on them. It has also been the driving force subconsciously. While sitting in my class it can be so discouraging having to take classes over the summer rather than living the dream on some sandy beach. However when you begin to feel like this remember why you are there. You are not there for kicks or because you did not have anything better to do, but because you are taking classes you need to finish your degree. It is so satisfying when thought of it like that. You had not even realized how you are actually real life "adulting." Doing things that you are not exactly a fan of but handling it as best you could. Keep it up and do not let a little fatigue stop you from moving toward your ultimate goal of graduating.
