My mother is the most fabulous woman I have ever met. Even in my angsty teenage years when I did not fully appreciate everything she did for me, I knew she was the greatest mother anyone could have. There are so many reasons why she is not only a great mother but a great friend, more reasons than I could try to write out, but, these are a few that stand out the most:
1. She is unbelievably supportive.
No matter what venture I try to pursue, from piano to knitting to karate - which lasted all of two weeks - my mom will always be sitting right by my side, cheering me on. She was there for every school performance; she was even there for every rehearsal of every school performance. She encourages me and my sister to do whatever makes us happy, even if she knows we do not actually know what we are doing; like all of the “Teach Yourself Guitar” books she bought me that are gathering dust on my bookshelf along with the guitar that I swore I would learn to play.
2. She taught me to be a good person.
As I have gotten older, I have realized that many people do not know what it means to be a good person. My mom always made it a priority to raise me with traits that will take me far in life. From her actions and her words, she taught me to try to put others in front of myself (I’m still working on that one), to have manners, to treat others with respect, and to write hand-written “Thank You” notes. Helping others and saying thank you seems simple, but it is not an easy lesson to learn and it definitely is not an easy lesson to teach.
3. No one will love me more than she does.
If unconditional love could ever be proven, my mother would be the prime example. There are some days when I genuinely feel bad for my future husband. He will try to convince me that he loves me the most, but I know, no one will ever love me more than my mom.
4. She makes me laugh harder than any professional comedian.
She is not intentionally funny, but she really makes me laugh. Every day she texts me about the antics of my puppy at home or our mutual love of the boy band One Direction, and every day I laugh. Great friends laugh together, and this is no exception for me and my mom.
When I am away at college, I miss my mom more than anyone. I miss hanging out with her, laughing with her, and making her mad at me for calling her sassy. Even when I am old and have children of my own, I know my mom will still be there for me and I will be there for her, and I will continue to try to be half the friend to her as she is to me.
