My beautiful mother had my older brother at the age of 15 and me at the age of 17. My mother graduated her senior year of high school with both my brother and me. She lived on her own and supported us by herself as a single teen mom. My mother struggled working countless jobs, hours and attending school. No job is harder than being a mother because this job requires 24-hour shifts and no days off, and my mother at 17 was the greatest at it.
Dear Mom,
I don't know everything you've been through; I don't know what you were feeling on your lonely nights through your pregnancies. I don't know what people thought of you or said to you when you were pregnant in high school. But what I do know is that you are the strongest woman. I know you did your best and made decisions based on my best interest. I can only imagine the sights you have witnessed and issues you have conquered. I want to thank you for giving up your childhood to support mine. Also, thank you for being independent, brave and for beating the odds despite the labels.
My mom, who was judged, is now a college graduate with a nursing degree as an RN. She works a stable job, found a wonderful husband whom I love as my father, owns a marvelous home and vehicle and is putting my older brother and me through college. Some people pick on my mother because of her comfortable life now, and you know what? She has every right to live happy and free. She deserves every great opportunity, and much more. My mother, brother and I will never forget where we came from, but yes, we will continue to strive for better days.
Do not let anyone ever discourage you, and do not fall into stereotypes. And remember — success is the best revenge.
I hope to be half the woman my mother is someday, and I want to thank her for this wonderful life.
