Thank You, Mom

A letter to the woman who still continues to give me life.

Thank You, Mom

For as long as I can remember, my mother has been my rock, my protector, and my best friend. She has helped me transform into the young woman who I am today. I honestly have no idea where I would be without her and I will spend the rest of my life showing her how thankful I am to have her as my mom.

1. Thank you for the unconditional love.

No matter what I go through in life or what changes I might experience, you continue to love me unconditionally. Even when I drink the last of the Coke or forget to clean the dishes, you never run out of love for me.

2. Thank you for the long conversations at any time of the day and/or night.

Whenever I have a good or bad day, you are the first person who I want to talk about it to. You listen to my heartaches and my celebrations. You are my shoulder to cry on and the best advice giver. You always know what to say, even when I feel the absolute worst.

3. Thank you for teaching me how to be strong and independent.

You have gone through tough times and you deserve so much more than what you got, but you never complain that life is too hard. You have taught me that you should never let your past affect what you do with your future. Never make excuses and never blame others for your own mistakes. Stand up for myself. You have taught me to be my own person and that I should never rely on anyone to take care of me.

4. Thank you for being my best friend.

You and I both know that friends come and go, but we will always have each other to pick up the pieces that they left behind. I don't worry anymore about what friends I have or how many. As long as I have you in my life, everything is fulfilled. You tell it like it is and never sugar coat it. You tell me what I need to hear, instead of what I want to hear. I know that you will always tell me the truth and, when it comes down to it, I know that you'll kick butt for me. I can never stay mad at you because, as time goes on, I'll end up needing my best friend for lunch dates and girl talk time.

5. Thank you for being the best mommy.

I know that it may seem as though I am obligated to say this because I'm your daughter, but I mean it when I say that you are the best mother ever! You have always made sure that I had food in my belly and clothes on my back. You even gave me more than I needed. You have always found a way to provide for me and for that I am truly blessed.

To be completely honest, you are my hero. You have taught me everything that I know and you still continue to teach me every day. I know that, at the end of the day, you will always be the person to lift me up when I am down. There are not enough words to describe how thankful I am to have you. You've given me nothing but the best and I'm going to repay you one day to show you how much you mean to me. Thank you for being you and for being the absolute best mother ever!

I love you to the moon and back!

Love,
Your peanut

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
