With July having started, summer is in full-swing: music festivals are everywhere, movies are coming (or have already come) out, and the temperatures are high. July also denotes the last full month of summer vacation for most college students. With temperatures so high, most outdoor things to do at the beginning of summer would only be miserable now, so here are a few ideas to make the most out of the last month of summer vacation.
1. Day trips
A day trip is still an option, but maybe not to the beach this time around. To keep the outside time -- and sweating-profusely-time -- to a minimum, take a trip somewhere with a lot of indoor activities. Places with a lot of shopping centers, or sight-seeing that can be done from inside a car, are good candidates for this type of day trip/road trip.
2. Start a new TV series
With temperatures reaching high 80's/low 90's on a regular basis, staying inside is a perfectly reasonable thing to do, so there's no reason to be bored if you're stuck inside. This is where things like Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime come in. They're all chock-full of new shows waiting to be watched. For a long-term commitment, pick something still airing on TV; that way, you have something to look forward to in the fall/spring, as well as something to do.
3. Pick up a new video-game
Summer is full of new video-game releases (I'm looking at you, Pokemon GO) because so many people are finally getting the time to play them. So be one of them! Download something new, or head into a game store. New releases are always fun, but I personally like new-to-me games. Old school video-game stores are great for new-to-me games, as well as finding the games from your childhood to relive them. Again, with temperatures so high outside, this could be a great alternative to a new TV show.
4. Go dig around the Internet
The Internet is full of ideas for things to do! Plenty of things circulate on a regular basis. If cooking or baking is your thing, there are tons of fun recipes to be found, or decorating ideas too. If that's not your thing, craft ideas are all over the Web as well! With school coming up, you can get crafty and make your own door decs or things for inside your room as well.
5. Pack for school
This last one could be a bummer if you're not looking forward to going back, but there's something oddly satisfying about packing. It's doubly satisfying if you're like me and are actually looking forward to moving into college. Packing could also entail getting yourself new things for your dorm, which is also satisfying in itself; something about new dorm stuff is also exciting. Being packed is one step closer to being back at school!
