If you haven't heard of the #dontjudgechallenge, pick up your phone and search the hashtag on Twitter or Vine. You will find countless posts of short videos supporting what originated as a body image campaign, and evolved into a major trend that promotes just the opposite -- bullying and stereotyping.
The irony of this "Don't Judge Challenge" is that the whole thing is incredibly judgmental. In these videos, teens are creating what they think is an ugly version of themselves, usually with drawn on uni-brow, acne, and glasses. The video transitions and the person reveals themselves as their 'true, beautiful' self.
I'm sure you're thinking, "I'm sorry, but you're joking -- right?" Unfortunately, I'm not. And there are already thousands of teens who have taken this ridiculous challenge. Who is any one person to deem that uni-brows, glasses, acne -- or whatever else these people are drawing on their faces -- as ugly, and how is that not being judgmental? It's mean, and stereotypical, and potentially detrimental to the self confidence of so many people. Little do these people who are taking the challenge know (apparently) -- there are people in the world with acne, people with uni-brows or missing teeth, and people in the world who wear glasses every day. Those with said features do not deserve to be judged or ridiculed by a social media so-called challenge.
Think before you post. You never know when something you say or do is going to affect someone permanently.
