Every four or eight years, there are big changes occurring in the most famous address in the world. The White House. Not only is a new president moving in, but also the White House gets the total package, the first family.
The new first family has some adjusting to do as they move into their new home. However, the first kids have no room to complain. Who wouldn’t want to say they live at the most famous home address in the country, 1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW? Being the daughter or son of the president has its ups and down and you can bet the media is there to catch it all.
Two of the most famous children were John Jr. and Caroline Kennedy. When her father first assumed presidency, Caroline was only three. In 1960, John Jr. was born. John Jr. was the center of one of the most famous photographs of the Kennedy days. Who can ever forget the image of him playing under his father’s desk in the Oval Office? There was definitely a different vibe around the White House with two very young children running around. During their stay in the White House, you would find ponies and puppies running around on the grounds of the White House.
It has been said that when their father died, they were taken to a relatives home. They then returned to the White House where their nanny told them the news of their father’s death. One can only imagine how angry this must have made the first lady.
Two of the most famous twins are Barbara and Jenna Bush. While they never actually lived there, they were known for giving the Secret Service a run for their money. Jenna’s code name was Twinkle and Barbara’s code name was Turquoise.
In Ronald Kessler’s book, In the President's Secret Service: Behind the Scenes With Agents in the Line of Fire and the Presidents They Protect, a passage reads, "Jenna would purposely try to lose her protection by going through red lights or by jumping in her car without telling agents where she was going. As a result, in a total waste of manpower, the Secret Service kept her car under surveillance so agents could follow her.”
When the Obama sister’s moved into the White House, the Bush sister’s had some advice to give them. They told them to explore as much as possible and gave them tips on who to go to among the staff for certain things.
Obama recently spoke about Malia attending her first prom. No news on who the date was, but rest assured he had a thorough background check. Malia also just turned 16 on July 4th. Sources say that she did receive a car, however, the White House has kept it quiet on the type of car. Malia will have to wait a year before she can drive alone (DC rule).
Sasha, the youngest of the Obama sisters is often in the media for her clothes. Yes, that sounds incredibly stupid. The girl has style though and is often setting new trends across the country for teens.
It has been speculated that Sasha will be holding a final say in where the Obama’s will relocate in 2016. Many believe that it is a big possibility that they may remain in Washington, DC for Sasha to finish out her high school years.
Will children or possibly grandchildren occupy the White House in 2016? Time will tell.
