West Virginia native and Marshall Univesity Alum, Randy Moss, received an early birthday present this year. His birthday is February 13 and he was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame. Moss, grew up in Rand which is in the backyard of where he attended high school. He went to school at DuPont High School, home of the Panthers. DuPont is where he started gaining media attention. Moss played football, basketball, baseball, and track.

Moss signed an intent to play letter for Notre Dame in 1995. The letter was later dismissed and he found himself playing at Florida State. Moss was released from Florida's football program and found himself closer to home. He found himself playing for none other than Marshall. Moss found great success at Marshall. In '96 he set records while playing for The Herd. He set records for: most games with a touchdown catch in a season, most consecutive games with a touchdown catch, most touchdown passes caught by a freshman in a season, and most receiving yards gained by a freshman in a season. He helped lead The Herd to an undefeated season and Division I-AA title in the school's final season of being in the division. 1997 was Marshall's first season in Division I-A and Moss helped lead the team to win the Mid-Atlantic Conference title.

Moss entered the NFL Draft in 1998. He was the 21st pick of the first round. He was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings. As a rookie, he was named NFL Rookie of the Year and a Pro Bowl Starter. The Vikings brought Moss great success and he was the league's leader in touchdowns in both 2000 and '03. Moss traded to the Oakland Raiders in 2005. In 2007 he traded again, this time to the New England Patriots. In October 2010 he traded back to the Vikings, yet he was there only a month until he went to the Tennesse Titans. Moss set out of the 2011 season and then signed a 1-year contract with the San Fransico 49ers. Moss officially retired in 2012.

Aside from his busy career, Moss has remained prominent in his home community and his alma mater. He never forgot where he came from. I attended the middle school that is DuPont. I have met Moss, I have seen the impact he has made. He remained friends with the school's faculty, most well-known was the custodian Big Mike. He purchases uniforms and supplies for the DuPont Middle School football team. He purchases school and sports supplies for the children in the area. He also buys turkeys around the holidays to give to families to ensure that they have something for the holidays.

Randy Moss deserves to be in the NFL Hall of Fame. His community, alma mater, fans, and state are extremely proud of him. Congrats Moss!!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
