Exodus 7:5- "And the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I stretch out My hand on Egypt and bring them out of the children of Israel form among them."
This week, my article is based on an experience I had. Growing up, I can remember being in Sunday school learning about all the people in the Bible: David, Joseph and His coat of many colors, the great flood, etc. Today I reflect on how Moses split the Red Sea to free the slaves in Egypt. It's one thing to read these stories, but it gives you life when you apply their lives to yours.
Egypt is a symbol of slavery; Moses obeyed God, and rescued them. They were rescued from their enemies that treated them inhumanly. Looking at our own lives, what is your personal Egypt? For some, it's insecurity, fear, lying, gossip, stealing, relationships, bad situations... For me, It was a friendship. Jesus came to save us from our sin, our slavery, things holding us back from the potential that God has for us.
Maybe you were in my shoes over the past week. I had been rescued from an Egypt in my life but wanted to return to it. You may be asking, what, you want to go back to a place of slavery? I believe when a door closes and a new one opens, it can be scary for a lot of us. Even though we are not in that old place, we are uncomfortable because Egypt was all that we knew. Even though we knew that it was not His will, we were somewhat comforted by it. At the same time as you feel the wind whirling through your hair when you are running away in freedom, a part of you wants to turn around. This feeling is caused because it's a point of no return. We don't know what's going to happen next. That's when we have to trust Jesus, even when our faith is being stretched like never before.
Here is a song that sticks out to me. When we are going into a new season, we don't have to be afraid. " You split the sea so I could walk right through it, you drowned my fears in perfect love". He drowned our enemies in the sea, in His love. Psalm 136: And rescued us from our enemies, for His mercy endures forever. His mercy is what protects us. What He brought you out of was not His will; down the road it was going to hinder you. Thank God that He is relentless to pursue us! It's His mercy that things didn't go your way. Thank God that you got fired at that job unexpectedly, that you unexpectedly broke us, that you lost your phone. God is for us and not against us. He loves with perfect love, even if it hurts. Hurts as in, He takes away what our flesh wants. So if you're out of Egypt, He won't re-open the Red Sea; He did it for a reason.
Ecclesiastics 3: 11- He has made everything beautiful in its time, Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find the beginning to end.
