Mornings: Expectations vs. Reality

Mornings are not a great representation of my day.

Mornings.

A perfectly prepared cup of hot coffee placed conveniently on your bedside table. The curtains opened just enough to reveal a compelling glimpse of the sunrise placed perfectly outside your window. The room smells like apple cinnamon or warm pumpkin cookies. Or, at least those are my go-to scents for fall. You have your favorite pajamas on. The fire is on. Your husband or boyfriend is in the kitchen making you breakfast because, well, it's the most important meal of the day. Wrapped up in a cozy blanket, you feel as though the day could throw you anything and you'd be ready for it. Your mind is at ease. The words "good morning" never sounded so good.

Ok, hold on. If this takes you back in time to this morning, here's three words for you -- I can't relate. Here's my morning expectations vs. reality:

1. Waking up to an alarm clock:

Expectation:

Reality:

Reality:

I don't understand girls who wake up with perfect hair and flawless faces. When I wake up, I look in the mirror and wonder if I somehow got hit by a train in the middle of the night.

3. Coffee preparation

Expectations:

Reality:

Now, I work at a coffee shop, and I'm still yet to understand how to perfect latte art.

4. Trying to be on time for classes:

Expectations:

Reality:

You'd be amazed how capable I am to wake up 15 minutes before class and only make it to class a couple minutes late... priorities.

5. Getting ready:

Expectation:

Reality:

Am I the only one who stares at my closet full of clothes only to decide 10 minutes later that leggings and a sweatshirt will do?

6. Telling yourself you'll get up early and workout:

Expectation:

Reality:

Waking up for an early workout seems like a good idea until it's 6:30am and my bed has never felt so comfortable. Suddenly, I convince myself that I'm perfect. I don't need to workout. Summer is so far away, anyway, right?

7. Eating a healthy breakfast:

Expectation:

Reality:

Waking up early to make a healthy breakfast would be the most beneficial move to make. However, I like sleep and going through Dunkin' Donuts only takes 5 minutes.

8. Being prepared for the day:

Expectation:

Reality:

I really need to learn to get things ready for the morning so that I'm not left looking everywhere for my keys and remembering at the last moment that I'm supposed to have read 100+ chapters of my textbook.

9. Doing your makeup while still half asleep:

Expectation:

Reality:

If you make one mistake with your mascara you've basically set yourself up for disaster. Enough said.

10. Washing your face:

Expectation:

Okay, I can't be the only one who scares myself when I look in the mirror after washing my face in the morning. In reality, your face is going to be drenched and red as a lobster. Don't believe any face wash commercial you see on the TV.

Dear High School Friend Group,

My sweet angels, where would I be without you guys. We all grew up together because we either met in middle school or high school and watched each other grow up and get "old." We got to go to prom together and then graduate together. Then watched each other as we continued our lives in college, joining sororities and meeting people who will impact our lives forever. It all has happened so fast.

Oh college, we can’t live with you, but we can’t live without you. It’s a love/hate relationship, really. College is an experience that no one can ever prepare you for, and maybe that’s a good thing. You never really expect any of the things that college encompasses until you are there. College is fun, but don’t have too much fun. C’s get degrees, but they don’t get you into graduate school.

Blair Waldorf

The "Gossip Girl" series may be over, but Blair Waldorf's iconic character lives in our hearts forever. Blair was the queen of the Upper East Side, and a character you either loved or hated. She taught us everything we needed to know about life, love and of course, how to score a Chuck Bass. So the next time you feel a bit lost and are in need of guidance, look no further than to the Queen B herself.

As I spend my Sunday avoiding my homework and other adult responsibilities, I realized that I've watched this series over and over about a million times. Sadly, there isn't a Blair quote I don't know, so I came up with a list of a few favorites. You know you love her...xoxo

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.
