You Should Be A Morning Person In The Summer, Even If You're Generally A Night Owl

Did I mention there's no crowds, like, anywhere? Also, it's summer.

Getting up early is often a concept met with a cringe. As college students, the snooze button tends to be our best friend, and morning classes are often dreaded. But something changes as classes finish and summer finally shows itself— along with bright sunny mornings, warm weather, and beach days.

Besides the sunrise being so early, summer mornings just have a sort of magic to them. The world is quiet at 6 a.m., only the soft chirping of birds and cool morning breeze to break the silence. It's the perfect time to enjoy a cup of coffee outside or take a walk along the beach.

It's easier to wake up early in the summer because of the brightness.

5:30 a.m. in July looks just like noon does in April, not to mention it's a heck of a lot warmer. During a heatwave, you'll find those early mornings have a cooler, much more enjoyable temperature. You can enjoy the outdoors without melting or burning within five minutes of stepping outside. The hardest part is crawling out of bed. But if you force yourself to do it, I promise you won't be disappointed!

This isn't to say that you have to wake up early every single day— it's definitely nice to sleep in sometimes, especially if you have a clear schedule or if it's rainy and gross out. But getting in the habit of waking up early will not only improve your mood, it'll make you more productive, more relaxed, and give you more time to enjoy summer before the dreaded first week of school in August or September.

If you have work during the day, waking up early will give you an extra few hours of free time. You can catch up on that book you've been trying to read, squeeze in an invigorating morning workout, or even have a morning swim at the beach (which will be amazing because there will only be, like, ten other people there. And no screaming children. Major bonus.)

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
