Unfortunately, I am creeping up on the last few days of my sophomore year. (Yes, tears are streaming as I type this.) If there had to be one word to describe this year, it would definitely be, "memorable."
College can become a scary place. Being late to class or getting a 'C' on an exam can become a reoccurring theme in your nightmares. But there is a way to manage both school and your social life. Don't let your professors fool you!
This year, I have become a master of these skills. And without them, the people I have met and the memories I have made wouldn't be around.
The next time your friends ask you to go get half-off appetizers at Applebee's the night before an exam, say yes. In the future, you aren't going to remember that question you missed. You are going to remember your friend hitting on the waiter and making you spit out your Sprite.
Learning to say "yes," can quickly make you one happy person. I have learned this thanks to the countless giggles and late-night shenanigans that will forever be imprinted in the back of my mind. (And in my photo album.)
Going out every weekend is more than okay if you can get yourself into a routine. Hell, go out five times a week if you can manage to keep the rest of your life in order. Don't spend too much time trying to be a good daughter/son and a perfect student. Although important, it isn't your soul purpose here at college.
Getting out, meeting new people, and trying new things are also such big contributors to your future. With these, comes social skills, time-management, and memories to last a lifetime.
No, this doesn't have to be getting wasted at the bars or hopping the frats every weekend. This can simply be doing something other than working or dedicating hours to studying. Just do more than homework while you are at college. You will never regret it.
Thanks to this crazy year and choosing to focus on more than just my GPA, I have become one happy person with a crazy hidden photo album on my phone. (My friends will be getting slideshows for their weddings.)
