I Am More
Nick DiVerniero

I am more than meets the eye. I am more than a 5-foot-3, brown hair, brown eyed girl. I am more than my waist size, more than my bra size, more than my dress size. I am not just a body to stare at, to judge. I am more.

I have more to offer than just my appearance. I've been known to tell a joke or two, and I've been known to laugh at some. I will do everything I can to take care of you when you're sick, even if I'm far away. I will listen to your problems, and likely try to cheer you up or give you so-so advice. Because I am more than just a body.

I work hard, have career aspirations, dream of traveling the world, and have likes and dislikes. Because I am more than just the number on my clothing tags or how my face looks.

I have met guys who only want me because my bra size is what they consider "perfect" or because they think I'm "easy." I have met guys who only want one thing and care about nothing more.

But I am more.

We are all more.

Each and every one of us has more to offer than just our bodies and our appearances. We all have stories to tell, knowledge to share, and things to say. We all have things that we like, and things that we don't like. There are little things that make each of us who we are. Things that are more than what meets the eye.

I don't mind when I'm told I'm pretty. I don't mind being told when I look good in that dress. But I can promise you that I am more than that.

Compliment my smarts, my humor, my caring nature. Compliment me on my talents, my ambition, my use of emojis. Compliment me on the things that make me who I am.

Because I am more than meets the eye.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
