In today's society, numbers seem to define us the most--how much we weigh, the percentage we get on our tests, the size of our jeans, and how many followers you have on Instagram and Twitter. We get so wrapped up in the numbers, that we forget what's truly important: your God-given beauty, intelligence and talents. So I'm here to tell you that you are more than the number on the scale, more than that bad grade on your test, and definitely more than the number of followers you have on social media.
Our self-worth should come from God and trusting that He made us exactly how He wanted us to be. He didn't create everyone to have a 4.0 GPA and a "skinny" body. He didn't intend for everyone to be perfect and flawless, because only God himself can be that. When Jesus first started his ministry, he only had 12 followers. 12. Now, he has millions of followers and is still questioned and ridiculed for what He did on the cross and every moment before that. It goes to show that no matter who you are or how many followers and friends you have, you will still never please society or measure up to their standards.
Now, don't take that the wrong way. I'm not telling you that you'll never be good enough for God, because you most certainly are. If you weren't, why would God have sent his only son to die on a cross for you, knowing already that you would sin against Him and fall short of His glory? Jesus paid the ultimate sacrifice for you because He knows you are worth it.
So the next time you're up for hours studying for that big test, don't worry if you don't get the grade you hoped for. Yeah, it sucks, but will you really remember that grade 5 years from now? Probably not. And the next time you're debating on whether or not to eat that last slice of pizza, go for it. The number on the scale the next morning is useless (and nothing tastes better than a nice, cheesy slice of pizza). Live your life and enjoy the moment. If you're constantly worried about what others are going to think of you, you will live a very unhappy life and that is notwhat God intended for you.
1 Samuel 16:7 says, "But the Lord said to Samuel, 'Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. TheLorddoes not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but theLordlooks at the heart.”
Numbers are temporary, but Jesus is forever.
