Picture this: you just had a terrible day. You studied for two weeks for this exam and left feeling as though it was in an entirely different language. You end up being so upset, you forget about what time your shift started at work, and along with getting a write up, your boss publicly calls you out about being late... again. By the time the shift ends, all you want to do is go to bed, but you can’t because your homework is calling your name. By chance, you look out the window on your way home, and see a sunset.
It is magnificent. It is warming, and blinding because of all the colors. It is a moment to get appreciate God’s greatness. You get lost in this humbling moment, and somehow you realize how small your problems seem to be.
Don’t get me wrong, I love sunrises as much as the next girl, but if I’m being honest, I have seen far fewer in my life than sunsets. I am not a morning person, and if I happen to be awake and I see one, I am not diligent enough to try and see another tomorrow.
Sunsets bring me a chance to stop worrying, complaining, and looking down at the ground. If I have a bad day, I won't stop and talk, and I won’t be the one to smile at the person I am passing along the sidewalk. I hate acting like that, because I don’t want to be a negative person in their story. Even if we don’t stop and talk, I want them to know that they are one of the reasons why I smiled today.
Sunsets are the end of a day, and instead of that ruining a good thing, it makes it so much better.
Take a moment to look at your weather app and see when today’s sunset is. Stop studying for a second or pause your show, and go outside and appreciate this blessing God has given us.
