7 Ways to Make Money Over the Summer

In This Article:

With summer finally here, many of us are looking for temporary employment before we go back to school or before we can return to our regular school-year jobs. No matter how much we want to deny it, our expenses pile up during the summer with road trips, air conditioning, and myriad cups of iced coffee.

Instead of stressing about your empty bank account, there are a few ways to earn a little bit of extra cash during the season. You may not want to use these methods as your main source of income, but it could help supplement the flow.

1. Sell Your Old Clothes On Poshmark

As long as your clothes are in good condition, you can make a profit through Poshmark, where you sell clothes for people of all ages, genders, and styling preferences. Look through your closet and see if there's anything you never wear or that still has tags on it from last season. The app isn't just for clothes, but jewelry and home decor too.

2. See If Anyone Needs Tutoring

Especially if you live near a high school, you may find students who want to prep for the SATs and ACTs, since there is usually a set of tests that occur during the summer. If you did exceptionally well on these exams, you may want to consider contacting students in high school and asking if they could use a little help. Some people are not getting test-ready, but still want to prepare for the school year by working on subjects they struggle with, so ask around!

3. Apply for a Froyo/Ice Cream Shop

These shops tend to be more popular during warmer weather (although I am a firm believer that ice cream can be consumed all year long), so they most likely need more employees to help out. Go to your local ice cream or frozen yogurt store and ask for employment opportunities. They may not need your help right now, but that could change later in the season.

4. Work at a Festival

If you live in a bigger city, there's a good chance some kind of music, art, or food festival will come to your location. These events usually have a lot of attendants, so they probably need some local employees to help out. The work may not necessarily be glamorous, which probably means doing concessions or janitorial service, but a dollar is a dollar.

5. Use Money Saving Apps

Although you do not usually see the savings at first, they'll accumulate over time the more you shop. You don't have to intentionally go out of your way to buy certain products, they give you money back based on your everyday grocery purchases. It'll just be a few cents here and there, but eventually the coins will add up. Try using apps like Ibotta that can also give you money back on clothing purchases and delivery fees.

6. Serve as a Lifeguard

Whether it's at a beach or a community pool, people are always looking for lifeguards over the summer. If you have the proper certification, this may be a perfect way to earn some extra cash. You'll have the opportunity to relax in the sun with your sunglasses on for most of the day, but make sure you remember to apply sunscreen.

7. Organize a Yard Sale

If your spring cleaning got delayed into the summer, a yard sale is a good way to get rid of those knick-knacks you never use. You may not have the space to do it at your own residence, so there's no harm in asking a friend to organize it with you and split the profits. Even if you think some of your old stuff is useless, one man's trash can be another man's treasure.

Nobody wants to work during the summer, but being unemployed for the season is not a financially feasible option for everyone. If you are working, remember to give yourself a second to relax, even if that means staying cooped up in your air-conditioned house after a long shift.

If I have learned one thing in my lifetime, it is that friends are a privilege. No one is required to give you their company and yet there is some sort of shared connection that keeps you together. And from that friendship, you may even find yourself lucky enough to have a few more friends, thus forming a group. Here are just a few signs that prove your current friend group is the ultimate friend group.

When it comes to television, there’s very few sets of on-screen siblings that a lot of us can relate to. Only those who have grown up with siblings knows what it feels like to fight, prank, and love a sibling. Ross and Monica Geller were definitely overbearing and overshared some things through the series of "Friends," but they captured perfectly what real siblings feel in real life. Some of their antics were funny, some were a little weird but all of them are completely relatable to brothers and sisters everywhere.

Her sister was a member, her mom was a member, all of her aunts were members, and her grandma was a member. She has been waiting her whole life to wear these letters and cried hysterically on bid day. Although she can act entitled at times, you can bet she is one of the most enthusiastic sisters.

Every kid in college and/or high school dreams of summer the moment they walk through the door on the first day back in September. It becomes harder and harder to focus in classes and while doing assignments as the days get closer.
