More Like Spring BROKE, Am I Right?

Are the trips worth the money if it's only just a week?

More Like Spring BROKE, Am I Right?

I’ve been waiting for this moment my whole life, my first spring break in college. Not going to lie, I am kind of expecting it to be as exciting as "22 Jump Street" (minus the police) or "Spring Breakers" (minus the random pimp guy), on a budget of course. I have had so many different perceptions of what this break would actually be like, but little did I know that the reality of it would be even worse.

For some odd reason, I had also thought of and pictured MTV’s annual spring break in Miami as the ideal portrayal of what my break would be like. My friends and I began the process of planning our “epic” spring break months in advance and all the ideas involved traveling the world, visiting different countries, or just relaxing at a beach.

Our ideas inevitably became a fantasy. I have heard stories from so many upperclassmen who described the different trips that they went on throughout their college careers, and it filled my head with similar objectives.

I had failed to realize that I was a broke college freshman, who still called home anytime I needed money. At first, only one of my parents was on board with the thought of visiting countries but as the year kept moving on, the idea just seemed more and more unrealistic.

The older I get the more I realize that sooner or later my parents are not always going to be there for financial support. Sure, I’m struggling with the thought of budgeting, but I have to start somewhere.

There’s no doubt that I could sit here and beg my parents to send me to California, Florida, or Mexico but would it even be worth it? With summer being just around the corner, I rather save my vacation budget and head to a different country for more than just a week.

I’m not saying that the people going on top-notch spring break vacations are crazy, it’s just that personally I could never. I can barely decide whether I should buy goldfish at target or get gas for my car, I highly doubt I should be making the decision of where I want to go on vacation with friends.

If only everything was as easy as making a go fund me and getting money from relatives, that you haven’t seen in years, on Facebook. I need a job. It’s so much easier said than done! I know, I know, I probably sound like a spoiled brat but it’s nothing but the truth!

The only steps that I really need to take are learning how to budget and planning my own vacations. However, I do believe that as I get older and the years continue on, a well-needed spring break trip is in my future.

Sadly, I am deciding to save money and taking the easy way out, by visiting my friends and family back home. The free home-cooked meals and room and board!!

Am I really missing out? But who knows, maybe I’ll get my childhood fantasy, of MTV in Miami, spring break trip in the years to come.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
