As I sped out of the drive-thru of Dunkin' Donuts after my first day of classes for the semester, I knew this pattern needed to come to a halt pretty soon. Well, maybe not a halt—definitely not a halt, but the habit definitely needs to relax a little bit. Since sixth grade, I have been drinking coffee, and as I got older the habit became more and more evident to anyone who knows me.
Coffee is usually in my hand every single morning, for every single class, and every day I walk into Coach for my shifts. Although I do enjoy selling handbags, I simply will not function normally without my added boost of caffeine from my favorite coffee houses—generally Dunkin' Donuts, Starbucks, or my favorite nearby coffee shops in Syracuse, New York.
I find myself waking up every morning, walking past my Keurig, and heading to my car to make my way towards Dunkin'. As I enter the drive-thru, I find that everyone always knows my name, order and that I'll be at Dunkin' sometime throughout the day. It's sad, but I absolutely love it.
As I am not very into partying, at all, if my guilty pleasure can be coffee I completely accept that. I try my best to drink six water bottles a day, which is pretty healthy, and aside from my twice-a-week taco bell runs, I would say caramel iced coffee with extra cream is overall my most unhealthy intake. Although, with the many scientifically proven health benefits to it, I definitely do not feel too bad.
As I sipped my coffee on the first day of classes, I remembered that studying does not have to be absolutely dreadful. As a designer, I always find myself sulking over the fact that I have mounds of assignments and projects to complete and allow myself to make my way to the coffee shop for my daily splurge. Somehow, this ends up making things so, so, sooooo much better.
All-in-all, the caffeine is always worth it, and although I sometimes wish I didn't love it so much, I never regret it.
