Some people are nervous that they will not make friends because they are not a member of a sports team or a club, but that is not the case. Along with those two options, there are many ways to make friends around campus.
Join A Club
If you decide to join a club you will be with and around people who share a similar, if not the same interests as you. They will be devoted, committed to something, and willing like you are.
Be a Member of a Sports Team
This is a great way to meet different people, because you will be training together daily, traveling to games, and basically spending 24/7 with these people, so it is inevitable that you will become close friends by the end of the season. When the time comes, you will graduate with them and most likely have many fun and exciting memories of practices, games, and silly moments (that might have happened during or outside of practice) and bonding moments that you will remember for years.
Learn an Instrument and be a Member of the Band
With all the people in the band, you will most likely make some friends. You do not necessarily need to know how to play an instrument, you could be a flag or baton twirler which basically means that you are either twirling a flag or baton and dancing while everyone else in the band is playing their instruments.
Go to the Campus Gym
Not all friendships are made in the classroom or in the dorm room. Some friendships are made at the gym. If you go the gym, you may make some friends that share some of the same interests as you, which is working out. Maybe if you are interested in protein shakes and you see someone drinking one you can ask someone about what flavor protein shake that is and then you will start a friendship, or maybe if you see someone lifting weights and you need help lifting weights that could start a friendship as well. There are many ways to start a friendship you just have to go looking for things that you have in common.
Get a Job on Campus
Every college needs help around campus. If you need the money the college will pay you if you are willing to help and work either. There are two jobs usually offered on campus to students: work study (taking money out of a student’s tuition) and jobs which actually give you money. Also, while at work, you will be interacting with other students on campus who might be ‘customers’; however, there will probably also be other students working during your shift, and you can and probably will become, bond and form a friendship with the students who have the same shift as you.
Eat at the Cafeteria
Someone might be sitting alone, and you could invite them over to sit with you. This will allow you to meet someone new, and for the person who was sitting alone to have a person to sit with. If you continue to invite them over if you continue to see them sitting alone, over time you might build a very strong friendship, and in the future you can laugh about how your friendship happened by maybe saying something like, “Oh, I remember where our friendship started, in the cafeteria.” It is also just a great place to meet new people, say “hi” to people that you might not have seen in a while, and meet up with friends.
With so many options to be active and meet different friends, where will you go to be active and meet some new friends?
