Don't Be Afraid To Learn More About Your Body
Bruce Mars

As an adult who now lives miles away from home, I have learned to manage my own health and research more on women's health. As I have embarked on a social journey through college, so far I have realized that many young women neglect or are too nervous to ask questions about their body. Women's health should not be taboo, but awareness should be raised.

There is no crime in learning about birth control, prenatal drugs, pregnancy, menopause, and many other women's health issues from an early age or any point in life. Many believe that talking about these things at an early age promotes teenage pregnancy, but in reality, talking about women's health and contraception will make women educated on their options should these things happen.

Life can come with many surprises, and along with life's challenges health can be risky. Never be embarrassed to research stages of pregnancy, life planning options, and even breast health because you are afraid of others will think. Take control of the knowledge over your body. Ask your doctor for advice and also make an effort to always get a second opinion. Do your own research and make sure to listen to your body.

Try taking vitamins, or if you aren't into synthetic vitamins create smoothies or consume fruits and vegetables that provide you with the necessary nutrients and vitamins. Whatever you need to do to take control of your health, do it with confidence and shamelessly. When it comes to your health it is ok to be selfish about it. Whether it means spending less time with friends and more time meditating or at the gym.

And for those that use the excuse that gym memberships cost money, as well as fresh produce, remember that pharmaceutical drugs cost much more. So take the chance and invest in the precautions. Use free gyms near you or tag along with a friend that is allowed to bring a guest to the gym. You can buy many vegetables for an affordable price that is equivalent to a happy meal, and let's be honest if you can afford happy hour and a bottle of wine you can afford to shop healthy eats and take part in fitness events. Even if you aren't into gyms there are many at home workout videos available on youtube at your disposal for free.

Mental health is also a very important thing to maintain. Doing things shamelessly and without worrying about what others expect will help to decrease stress levels. Exercise has been shown to improve blood flow, alertness, and mental health. Use your strengths and channel your struggles into a particular work out, sport, or even an artsy leisure activity.

Whatever you choose to pursue always remember that in the modern world there are many resources from tablets, articles, and magazines to research studies, youtube videos, and women's health forums. There are many podcasts even on music programs such as Spotify that target women's health issues, and over a knowledgeable insight and personal stories about what many women are going through. Being more open to questions regarding your body is not something to be ashamed of or shy about. Many should strive to read more about what their body can handle and the many miracles it can do. A woman's body is an intricate and beautifully made body of art. It can support life and maintain it as well. So take care of it like the priceless gem it is.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
