How Weather Affects Mood

The days are getting gloomier, and so are we.

How Weather Affects Mood

Do you think the weather affects our mood? If we are happy and the weather suddenly gets gloomy, do we also become more down? Recently, because we are just entering the early stages of winter, the weather is starting to get more and more gloomy in addition to get a lot colder. As if the gloomy and cold weather was not enough, the end of the semester is proving to be an extremely stressful time to those in school. As a result, the weather and our mood and our stress do not make a good combination.

Nowadays, every time I look outside the window, I do not see any sun. There is not even a peak of sunlight because the cloudy skies and raindrops cover all possible light. Without any sunlight, it somewhat puts me in a "down" mood. Even though my day started off normal or great, when I step outside and see gloominess, I can't help but feel a little down. In addition to my mood, everyone around me also feels a bit less excited and energized for the upcoming day and events. Not even just a "down" mood, but it seems as everyone, including myself, looks a bit more pensive and deep in thought. A gloomy weather really changes my mood and even how I think. I believe that when the weather is gloomy and cloudy, I tend to think more seriously and tend to always daydream in my own thoughts.

On the bright side, when the weather is great, I feel great and uplifted and motivated. Although my day started on the wrong foot or my day hasn't been going well, the good weather just makes me happier and excited to go on with my day. Also, I feel a lot more energized and determined to get my work and anything that needs to be finished done. Getting sun every day is extremely important because not only is it healthy for you, but it really affects how you work and act during the day.

Through this observation, I really became fascinated with how the weather affects my mood. Although I always knew that the weather had some type of correlation with my mood and how I felt during the day, I did not know that it was that big of an impact. Even outside of my academic life, good weather makes me want to go outside and explore the city and go on adventures. But, when the weather is not so good, I just want to stay inside and watch television and sleep. Good weather also makes you extremely productive and not wasteful of your time, which is something that I always struggle with, especially as a student. Good weather makes me do work and prepare for what is coming up in the future, while bad weather makes me just finish what I have to and then do something else, probably an activity that is less productive. Remember, always look at the weather and see how you feel, it can really make a difference!

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
