Which month and character are you?

If The Months Of The Year Were "Parks And Rec" Characters

Here's something you've probably never wondered before but I "often" have: which month of the year would each "Parks and Recreation" character be? Well, using absolutely no science, I've come to some startling conclusions. During my recent discovery and binge-watching of this fantastic show (I know, I'm late!), I've learned a lot about the characters and inhabitants of Pawnee. And now, through careful planning, I've deduced which character month each would be. I know you've been waiting all your life for this information:

January: Leslie Knope

The beginning of everything, always on top of things, super enthusiastic, can do no wrong (or secretly does everything wrong but hides it really well). Picture yourself in those first few weeks of a New Year's Resolution...that's like Leslie 24/7.

February: April Ludgate

Pessimistic, cold and distant. The time when no one wants to go outside, talk to anyone or do anything. Sounds a bit like April...

March: All of the insane public forum townspeople

Super lame, confusing and confrontational. March is a bully, and so are the insane people who go to every public forum in Pawnee. There is always something to complain about.

April: Jerry Gergich

Totally misunderstood. Loved one minute, mocked the next. Sometimes surprising you and sometimes doing exactly what you expect. (Poor April, poor Jerry.)

May: Andy Dwyer

Soft, cheerful, clueless, always discovering something new. Lots of emotional depth but no clue what's going on. (Just like all of us in May...what even is May?)

June: Donna Meagle

Sassy, lively and all about self-love. Always ready for a good time, life of the party, getting everyone's act together. Donna (and the month of June) for the win.

July: Ann Perkins

Warm, outgoing and optimistic, but also not afraid to be brutally honest. Likeable and also desperate to be liked, praised by most (but especially Leslie).

August: Mark Brendanawicz

Forgettable month, forgettable character. The one you tolerate while it's around and then put immediately behind you when it's over. All-around blah.

September: Ben Wyatt

Sarcastic, upbeat but cynical, and a total nerd. Often surprising, often surprised (sounds exactly like you in the first month of the semester, eh?).

October: Tom Haverford

October is a time when everything's changing. Tom changes his life plans almost constantly. It's also a fresh, fashionable month with lots of traditions. Hmmm...

November: Ron Swanson

Wants everything to the point, too tired to put up with your crap, wants people to talk less and say more. Also, secretly caring and appreciative (just like Thanksgiving, am I right?).

December: Chris Traeger

Despite being busy and stressful, Chris and the month of December are also relentlessly cheerful and merry. Both require huge amounts of self-motivation to achieve success, and can be painfully optimistic at times.

A Few Thoughts Every College Freshman Has

The transition into adulthood is never easy

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

1. People assume you are mad all of the time.

2. Ten out of ten times you will give off an intimidating impression to others.

3. People do not acknowledge your feelings because you "do not have any."

4. Constantly being exhausted from trying to smile and not look like a witch.

5. And on the rare occasion your facial expressions show how happy you are, your friends think you are going crazy.

6. Each of your friends has said "I thought you were so mean when I first met you" at some point.

7. Then they follow that by saying "you are just hard to read."

8. So naturally if people do not know you they just assume you are a snob.

9. And when you are actually mad, your facial expressions are horrifying.

10. In the end you always look like you are judging people, when in reality people are ALWAYS judging you.
