You can feel summer approaching, images of the blue sky and summer breeze flow freely through your mind. Then your alarm rings and you realize, it’s only April.
You begin to miss home.
All of the fresh-seasoned cooking. The loving cuddles from your pets. Your loving parents. Even the annoying sibling banter you generally avoid. Your own room. Most of all, you miss your very own bed that anxiously awaits for your arrival.
You treat your roommates as if you’ve already left.
Everything suddenly holds sentimental value, even your traditional Einstein’s coffee date turns into a sob fest. Each event becomes a new photo op. No event is left untouched, they are all bittersweet. Each happy moment will end with "Can you believe--?" that will turn laughter into reminiscent silence as you each relive all of the events from earlier that year.
You can finally use the skip days you’ve generously saved.
Yep, that’s right. All of those days you’ve anxiously awaited (assuming you haven’t used them all already) are now finally available to use however you choose. All of those days of listening to incessant lectures while while your eyelids began to droop, are finally going to pay off.
You really, really just want to lay in bed and watch Netflix.
This is where the free days come in. Nothing is more relaxing than finally laying in bed with the sun filtering through your window as you cuddle up in your comforter. You rest your head on a pillow and hit the space bar and Netflix already knows, yes, you will “Continue Watching”. The last thing you want to think about are upcoming finals and deadlines.
No, you haven’t started packing.
The truth is, you are more unpacked than when you first arrived. Clothes are thrown in places you hadn’t thought of: hidden between the wall and your bed, wedged in the corner of your closet, hidden in the bathroom corner. Thanks to Christmas, you also have more than what you arrived with in the fall.
You will order massive amounts of food.
Nothing can compare to the places you’ve found that deliver to your dorm. All summer you will have to go without the same fresh made pizza, mouth-watering Chinese food, and even your favorite sub shop. As finals week rolls around these delivery places are our saviors.
The last month of college is always emotional, you miss what you currently still have. Yet, you wait anxiously for what’s to come. Dreaming of what it may be like during the summer, returning home and being with family. Relaxing as much as you can while juggling a new summer job.
