I read A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness about two weeks after it came out. My copy of the book has a special place on the shelf, and in my heart.
I read this book in a little less than an hour and a half because I was so entranced by the language, the art, and the story line.
The story follows twelve year old Conor, whose mother is battling a terminal illness. He get bullied at school, and deals with his grandmother and his father, who don't seem to understand his struggle. One night, Conor meets a tree monster who tries to comfort him.
I cannot gush enough about this book. A Monster Calls is such a masterpiece, and it is my favorite book to this day. I don't read much anymore along the lines of fiction, as I rarely have time to read, and I rarely enjoy reading a book more than once, but this is a book I will always try to find time to read and reread over and over.
A Monster Calls is such a wonderful book, and I can't wait to see the movie. Please, read the book and check out the movie.
