An Inner Monologue Everyone Has During Recruitment.
Shannon Hampton

It’s finally here, you’ve prepared for months for this exact week. You’re a potential new member and it is sorority recruitment week. This week you will tour houses and meet girls in order to find the perfect sisterhood for you. With your excitement comes obvious anxiety, meeting a dozen girls in a day is tiring. While the initial week of sorority recruitment is tough the outcome is worth it. Be yourself and keep your mind open and the best sorority for you will be obvious. In the mean time here is a look into some thoughts you may have throughout the week (as well as answers to those thoughts) as told by memes.

Who is this lady?

Meeting your Rho Gamma/Rho Chi/Pi Chi:

She is here for your ever need, easily the most helpful person you have all week. She will give you snacks, unbiased opinions and hugs when you need them. Since your mom can’t also go through sorority recruitment, your Rho Gamma is the next best thing.

What should I wear?

Getting Ready:

Be yourself. If you don’t usually wear tons and tons of makeup don’t put on that much makeup. If you hate extremely girly dresses don’t go out and buy one just for recruitment. Eat a big breakfast and drink water in order to be ready for your recruitment days.

Are these girls going to be in my sorority too?

Who knows, but they understand the struggle too:

Sitting silently by yourself will not help your conversation skills inside the house. Talking to other people can calm you down. The girls in your recruitment group are going through the exact same feelings that you are. Even if you don’t get in the same sorority you’ll always have a friend to share this experience with.

Wow her shoes are so much cuter than mine.

Comparing yourself:

Don’t compare yourself to anyone!! Nothing good comes from thinking someone is better or worse than you. You are a shinning star and you don’t need to impress everyone.

They look so happy in their recruitment video!!

Spoiler: It’s staged.

Sororities want you to like their videos, they are fun to watch and super cute. But don’t base your choice on these videos or a sisterhoods colors. The conversations your have and values you see from each sorority should guide your decision.

Am I almost done?

You will probably have at least one panic attack:

It’s here; preference night. Tonight is the night that you ultimately decide what sisterhood you feel most at home with. After a long week of lots of talking, walking from house to house and overthinking this night should really help you clarify where you want to be.

I'm sleep deprived but it's finally bid day!

Take it all in because you only get to be on this side of recruitment one time. It really is a fun process when you look past the anxiety and long days. You get to run home to a group of sisters that are just as happy to see you as you are to see them, just like real family.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
