PSA To Moms Everywhere: It's OK To Not Be OK

You don't have to be the best mom. You don't have to have dinner on the table every night. You don't have to have the house perfectly clean and all the beds made everyday. Let the kids play and make a mess. Take them out to eat when you don't want to cook. Lay around in your pajamas all day and have a glass of wine.

Its okay to not be okay.

Its okay to take a break and walk away. Its okay to put the baby in their crib when they wont stop crying and shut the door so you can breathe. Feed them, change them, and know that they are fine and take a second to focus on yourself. I'm a walking billboard for being out of control.

Motherhood is hard but realize that that is okay.

Anxiety, postpartum depression, and a screaming one year old.T r u s t me, I have so many moments when I want to hide under the covers and run away from the world. But its okay.

Its okay to not be okay.

Don't keep secrets from the world. You don't have to post to Facebook and Instagram about how perfect your kids are, marriage is, and how much you love your job. Because everyone knows that nothing is perfect 100% of the time. I know so many people who post those things and then run to me and complain about everything going on because its all crashing down around them.

When you haven't showered in 3 days, haven't brushed your hair and you're not wearing a bra-just know that its okay. When you fed your kids Mcdonalds and the only thing you've had is wine-just know its okay. When your kids are dressed better than you but acting like Satan-just know its okay.

When someone tries to tell you you aren't doing it right, or you feel like you are failing then just step back. Look at your kids and your life. See the smiles on those messy faces? They are proof that no matter how many times you fail in a day that they will always look up to you like you walked on water (until they become a teenager, of course.) They will love you no matter what.

Everyone fails at motherhood even if they don't admit it. Everyone has moments where they hide from the kids eating candy. Everyone has days that they stay home and hides from the world. You don't have to be the best mom. You don't have to have dinner on the table every night. You don't have to have the house perfectly clean and all the beds made everyday.

It's okay to not be okay.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.

1. People assume you are mad all of the time.

2. Ten out of ten times you will give off an intimidating impression to others.

3. People do not acknowledge your feelings because you "do not have any."

4. Constantly being exhausted from trying to smile and not look like a witch.

5. And on the rare occasion your facial expressions show how happy you are, your friends think you are going crazy.

6. Each of your friends has said "I thought you were so mean when I first met you" at some point.

7. Then they follow that by saying "you are just hard to read."

8. So naturally if people do not know you they just assume you are a snob.

9. And when you are actually mad, your facial expressions are horrifying.

10. In the end you always look like you are judging people, when in reality people are ALWAYS judging you.

College is a crazy, beautiful, amazing whirlwind. It is highly popularized in television and movies, but not necessarily in the most accurate way. Yes, there's frats, dingy dorms, raging house parties—but there's also a lot that people fail to mention.

1. If you thought that you knew how to study, you're wrong.

All of your classes aren't taught every day, so professors aren't on your case constantly about reading and memorizing material. Once you get back that "questionable" first exam grade, you'll kick it into high gear and figure out what works for you
