An Open Letter to My Momma

Dear Mom,

Thank you.

Thank you, for loving me unconditionally and for always staying by my side. You have never missed a theater production, concert, game, match, or award ceremony. You have spent the majority of your life taking care of me, and my siblings, and how you handled the three of us (especially all together), I will never understand. You somehow juggled working what seemed as endless hours at work, and being there for each and every one of us.

You have given us everything you have. And, I will never be able to thank you enough for everything you sacrificed for my happiness, or for the happiness of my brothers.

Thank you, for being my best friend. I couldn't have asked for a better role model, shopping buddy, or the best person to watch endless hours of Teen Mom with. Really though, watching any sort of TV marathon with you, is one of my absolute favorite things that we do together. And, let's not forget our Olive Garden momma/daughter days. There's never enough chicken and gnocchi soup.

You will never understand how much you mean to me. Everyone is so crazy about you, seriously, whenever I meet a friend of yours, or anyone who has ever known you the first words out of their mouth are "You have the sweetest mom." And, I do. You always go out of your way to make everyone around you feel loved, and special, and you always succeed.

I have watched you face numerous obstacles, and challenges, with nothing but a smile on your face throughout them. You are by far, one extraordinary human. Whenever my brothers or myself have been faced with an obstacle you were right there beside us, doing whatever you could to help us. You never gave up on us.

You have answered my 3am phone calls, you have played the role of being a Designated Driver for my friends and I. And let's not forget all the endless hours of preparing for auditions. You have always gone above and beyond for me.

When you're a little kid everyone always wants to know "what are you going to be when you grow up?" It's hard telling what my answer was, although I'm sure it was somewhere along the lines of becoming a singer... But, as the years have rolled by I have come to realize that I want to be just like you. You are the best person I know, and I am absolutely, so beyond blessed to have you...Everyone is so blessed to have you.

I wanted to write this article for you, because I hope that you realize how much you inspire me, as well as how much you mean to me. I don't care what anyone else says... I have the best mom.

The Battle Between College And My Mental Health

College isn't easy, and I'm afraid I'm not going to make it at the rate my mental health is going.

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?

For the average 20-something, life moves pretty fast. You’ve got classes, friends, relationships, jobs, family, and whatever else we overcommit ourselves with. I probably should have learned to say no to adding more to my schedule a long time ago, but instead here are 11 things that can be more helpful than coffee.
