Lessons My Mother Taught Me

I love her for all of them.

Lessons My Mother Taught Me

I don’t know about you, but my mom is my main supporter. She has taught me so much, and she is the reason why I am the person I am today. There isn’t a day when I don’t call her. I mean, I have to tell her about the cute boy in class that turned around and smiled at me, or I have to cry because life is just sometimes too much. There are countless lessons my mom has taught me, but here are 10 that really make me so thankful she is my mom.

You got this.

Like I said, my mom is my main supporter, and she's always telling me I can do anything that I put my heart into.

The truth always comes out in the end.

No matter how tough of a situation I am in, my mom always reassures me that the truth will always surface, and things will work out.

You will do great, I know you will.

No doubt, she always shows the positive aspects of my life, and by golly, that helps me succeed in every way possible.

It’s okay, because I will always love you.

Whether it’s a break-up or a bad test exam, my mom always tells me I have her love and support no matter what the situation is.

Kill ‘em with kindness.

This is the biggest lesson my mom ever taught me. She believes that taking the higher road will win any battle, and she taught me to take the higher road by being kind.

Always shop clearance sales.

My mom always has told me that the best outfits or decorations come off the clearance rack. It was never necessary to pay full price for anything.

Don’t ever depend on someone to do it for you.

All my life, my mom has taught me that you can’t depend on anyone – emotionally, financially or physically. You always have to be independent to be the person you want to be.

Always buy the matching earrings to your necklaces.

According to my mom, no outfit is ever complete if you don’t have the matching earrings to your necklaces. “Buy the whole set. It makes you look more put together and professional.”

Follow your gut.

My mom has always told me that if I get a weird feeling in my stomach telling me not to do something, DON’T DO IT.

Be bold.

My mom has always taught me to be the boldest person I can be. My attitude or personality will speak louder than any physical feature, she says. She has always taught me to speak my mind in the most respectful manner.

Thanks Mom. You will forever be my #1!

5 Things To Do That Are Better Than Writing A Paper

Don't waste your time trying to write that paper when there are so many more interesting things you could be doing.

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?

I can barely remember back when I was the only child. Most would say it’s because it is extremely difficult to remember things as a toddler but I would say it's because I was bored until my sister came along. My mother always says how important the "sister bond" is and with every year that passes I realize how right she is. Instead of writing a novel about all of the wonderful things there are about having a sister I decided to list a few of them instead.

It is the time of our lives that we are beginning to enter the adult world and most of us, if not all of us, have no idea what we are doing. It's like starting a video game, but skipping the tutorial. We're all just running around aimlessly hoping we accidentally do something right that moves us along the right path. Now that graduation has just happened, or is right around the corner for some of us, it's time to start thinking about how we are going to take care of ourselves once we are on our own.

If you’re anything like me, you love a good cup of coffee. My coffee always comes from Starbucks; I refuse to drink it from anywhere else. Over the years, it’s become one of my biggest addictions. College involves a whirlwind of emotions, whether it’s from the stress of an assignment (or twenty), or from fighting with your roommate.
