I never thought I would actually be super close with my mother, and after 20 years, she's become my best friend.
Don't get me wrong, we butt heads, we bicker, we fight, and then we laugh, make jokes and reminisce about the good old times. There are so many perks in having your mom as your best friend because after all mothers always have your best interest in mind and their main concern is always your happiness.
We are our mom's pride and joy no matter what, and the least we could do to give back for the things they've done for us is to be the best person that we can. They don't ask for much, they just want their kids to be around and love them unconditionally. Here are a few things that I'm blessed to have my mom for:
1. Finding my stuff.
My room whenever I come back from college feels like a clothing store just threw up all over it. Sad to say that half of the time I wake up rushing to work, I always end up scrambling like crazy to find my glasses underneath all the jumbled mess. And like always, my mom saved my butt and found it for me.
2. Passing on the cooking pride.
You got me into cooking, now I can't wait for my future family one day to taste my cooking that was influenced by yours truly.
3. Advice. advice. advice.
Growing up is no joke. The whole beginning excitement and the wishful thinking future makes the present so blurry and unenjoyable sometimes. But whenever the water gets a little murky, we always know who to run to for the BEST advice, even though half of the time they sting. We all need some legit truths in our lives.
4. Always wanting the best for me.
Whether it be boys, education, career, my future family one day... I know no matter what you always have my best interest.
5. Taking care of me in general.
I'm not just talking about all the times that you spent worrying about me being sick. I'm talking about everything. From nagging me to wear a jacket even though it's already warm-ish out, to making sure I eat something healthy.
6. Always making me laugh.
I must say I got my slightly funny self to my mom. But over time, my mom's humor has slowly stuck to me. But you're the bomb, for always making me laugh in my worst mood swings.
7. Patience.
Words can't describe how much patience you have. From dealing with my little brother and I bickering to me giving you an attitude. You're a saint for putting up with that and still love me at the same time.
In all honesty, at some point, you'll realize that your family will always be there for you. I know I learned the hard way and I am now living my life to make my mother proud of me. For all the things that you've done for me, I can't thank you enough. I wouldn't be where I am now without you.
