1. You can vent for hours, and not a word about any of it will be said.

Friends nowadays can be hard to trust. Some talk behind your back, some won't ever listen and some tell the whole school about that special secret of yours. But if you tell your mom, you can be relieved of the worry about any judgment or lies because she is your most trustworthy sidekick.

2. She knows you better than anyone else.

Your mother has got you figured out from the balls of your feet to the top of your head. She knows when you aren't telling the truth and knows when something is wrong the minute she sees you. Don't try to play it off or she will somehow figure out what’s happening. Mothers ALWAYS do!

3. She has seen you at your worst but still loves you.

Whether you’re hurling over a toilet, sick with the flu or bawling over a breakup, your mother is always going to be there by your side. She doesn't judge or ask questions. She just helps you until you’re better.

4. She is your “biggest fan.”

Even if it costs her whole savings, she would give it all up to give you a life full of success and happiness. Your mom wants to give you anything and everything that could help you become successful, whether it’s a pursuit in sports, academics, the arts or anything else you want to do.

5. She will always defend you.

Whether or not she has the time, she will always come to your defense. Maybe it’s about the kid in class picking on you, or a teacher not giving you the correct information for that big test. Whatever it is, your mom will always be the first one to listen and do something about it.

6. She's the go-to contact to call when something is wrong.

If it’s 2 a.m. and you’re at a friend’s house and want to come home, who answers the phone and comes to your rescue? What about when you’re having an off day and need some friendly advice? Who takes her lunch break to text you back? That’s right: your mom!

7. She's your favorite shopping buddy.

She has the eye for your style, and always manages to help you pick out the best outfits.

8. She wants the best for you.

She is constantly pushing you to be at your best ability. It may get on your nerves sometimes, but she's doing it all for you, all so you can have the most amazing life imaginable.

Mom,

These are only some of the many things that make you amazing. Thank you for all that you do for me. You truly are not only my mom, but my best friend.

Love always, Ash xx

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
