Thank You To My Mom

A few things I want to thank my mom for.

Thank You To My Mom

Ever since I was little, I knew who my hero was, the person I look up to the most, some people would say a famous celebrity, while I say my mom. So thank you mom, for all of these things and more.

1. Long Car Rides

Every once in a while we will go on long car rides, just the two of us and just talk about anything, everything and nothing. Sometimes we become philosophers talking about the meaning of life and other times we could be talking about a cat video one of us saw on Facebook or Youtube. Also we sing our lungs out to the songs we always sing together, ranging from Katy Perry to The Eagles.

2. Supports me in whatever I believe in

Whether it be playing an instrument or wanting to go into competition for archery, she's always there by my side. Even if she doesn't necessarily agree with what I want, if I'm passionate, she'll be there standing next to me.

3. Knows something's wrong even when I don't say a word

For me, I tend to hold everything in and not say anything to anyone because I don't want to be a bother. Since my mom knows this, when she sees something's on my mind, she will talk to me about it. Sometimes when I don't want to tell her yet, she will make me laugh and try to cheer me up because she knows that I will eventually tell her when I'm ready.

4. Has shown me so many different qualities a person should have

My mom has shown me so many different and great qualities through previous situations in her life whether I've seen them myself or if I've heard about them in stories. She has shown me how to make the most out of any situation, she's found strength where some would never be able to find it, and has even influenced me to do some things that have changed my life.

5. Being my best friend and mother

Ever since I can remember she has told me that I can tell her anything, no matter what, even if I knew it was something bad. If I needed her, she wouldn't hesitate to help. She is brutally honest with me, even when I don't want her to be, between saying what clothes fit me best and how she feels about my friends, I can always count on her. In this instance, mother does know best. I'm glad we are as close as we are because I can't see it any other way.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
