My mom is my best friend, she’s the most important and amazing person in my life. She’s been there for me since the beginning and I know she’ll continue to be there for me through the rest. So, although my mom’s pestering questions can sometimes get on my nerves, I know she always means well and it makes me appreciate her that much more.

1. Can I zoom in?

For the longest time, having my mom ask me if she could zoom in on an Instagram picture was the most frustrating thing. Luckily now she can zoom in whenever she wants, she just can’t double click. We’ve tackled one hurdle, but now Snapchat seems to be the newest issue. For the last time, no, mom, you can’t zoom into this Snapchat!

2. Can you call me to say hi?

Ever since I’ve been in college, I’m used to waking up, clicking my home button, and seeing a text from my mom that reads “Hi honey! Call me when you wake up.” She’s the first person I talk to in the morning and we debrief on our days and our nights. It’s always a nice thing to catch up, especially with your mom.

3. Can you add me on Snapchat?

It took about two months of my mom nagging me to set up her Snapchat account that we finally did it. Now she’s one of my best friends on Snapchat and she knows what it means when I talk about my streaks.

4. Can I follow your Finsta?

Stop asking because the answer is definitely not.

5. It’s cold there can you bring a jacket?

I love you, mom, but just because you’re cold doesn’t mean I will be (even though you’re usually right that the mall is really cold.) It’s fine though, I’ll keep stealing your jacket when we go out.

6. Can you smile please?

Whenever I take a picture or send my mom a Snapchat and I’m not smiling, she automatically thinks I am upset. I can always expect a “smile” text from her soon after.

7. Who’s that boy?

He’s just a friend!

8. Can you take out the garbage and walk the dogs?

My responsibilities at home consist of me and my sister fighting with my mom over whose turn it is to take out the garbage and who has to take the dogs on a walk.

9. Why are you alone in your room?

Whenever I’m alone in my room, my mom seems to worry if I’m okay. But, honestly, sometimes it’s nice to just be alone.

10. Why don’t you have an early night and go to bed early?

Having an early night in college is almost impossible for me. My eyes don’t shut earlier than midnight and I always feel like I’m out doing something. There’s just never any time for sleep.

11. How do I join this group on Facebook?

Honestly, it’s always easier if I just do it for her instead of trying to teach her.

12. Can you text me so I remember?

If I had a dollar for the amount of times my mom made me text her reminders, I’d be a millionaire. What’s even better is she always opens the text and then makes me resend it. It just turns into a vicious cycle of sending and reopening.

13. Why don’t you post that on Instagram?

She never understands which pictures are Insta-worthy and which ones just aren’t. But I promise you, the blurry picture of me that I took last night isn’t going on Instagram, mom.

14. Have you been taking your vitamins?

Not as much as I should, but I’ll try harder. With the amount of times I’m in and out of the health center, I probably should be taking care of myself a little more than I do.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
