To The Mom Who Plays Two Roles In One, You're My Rock
Tiara German

In January 2010, my dad left our family and my mom quickly had to adjust to both roles. As I have gotten older I have noticed all the actions she does that makes the biggest impact, whether big or small. I strive to be like her every day of my life.

Mom, this one is for you. Thank you for everything you've done and continue to do.

First, I want to say I love you to the moon and back. You are the greatest blessing and role model in my life. And for that, I want to say Thank You. You always are quick on your feet and always put others before yourself. You are always humble and never complain. Your smile is contagious and never-ending. You sacrifice so much for our family.

I don't think there are enough Thank You's in the world to cover it, but here are a few. You deserve all the praises in the world.

Thank you for your endless support. From running to be Homecoming Queen, choosing which college I would end up spending the next 4 years at, to even joining a sorority. Thank you for never telling me no, even when some ideas fell through. You always supported me to the very end.

For all the times you supported me when I was head over heels for the newest boy that liked me, thanks for being there when boys sucked. Thank you for always being my shoulder to cry on. You always are there to listen to everything, from my little rants to me just talking to you because I'm homesick.

Thank you for always checking in with me. Even though when I got older sometimes I would roll my eyes I would always reply because all the "text me when you're there" messages mean a lot. It shows that your care for me is endless.

Thank you for all the little things that make an enormous difference. For all the spontaneous surprise hugs, the cuddles on the couch, for all the late-night movie nights, and the mommy-daughter dates. Even when you light up from seeing a dragonfly. It shows that something so small can light up your world. For all the back rubs when I wasn't feeling the best, for being present at every event that I participated in, for all the laughs, endless compliments, and kisses.

The little actions matter too.

Thank you for always pushing me to be the greatest I can be. I think the notes in my lunch bag every day really helped too. Thank you for all the life learned lessons. I gained everything I needed from you. You were my first teacher and you taught me everything. It shaped me into the strong confident women that I am today.

You are my biggest cheerleader, my dance partner, my favorite teacher, my angel sent from heaven above. My rock, my twin, my best friend, and my other half. I hope when I get older and begin to start a family, I can be as much as a mom to them as you are to us. I said it once before and I will say it again, You deserve ALL the praises in the world.

I love you mommy!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
