Mom, I Never Told You...

What does it really mean to be a mom?

According to dictionary.com, mom means "a female parent." This is true, but moms are so much more than that. They're our rock, our support system, our shoulder to cry on, our best friend, and so much more. Moms do so much for us, even when we least expect it, but, do they know how much we love them? How much they're appreciated? We're so busy in life that sometimes we forget the things that matter most.

Mom, I never told you...

...how much I love your cooking. When I've had a long day at school, I just don't feel like making anything. It's nice to be able to come home and enjoy a home cooked meal, even if it's just hot dogs and fake potatoes (potato spuds).

...how much I appreciate you. You do so much for me and never expect anything in return. Sometimes I forget to say "thank you," but I really do mean it.

...how much I love you. You're always there for me when I need to have a "guy talk." You always put up with my moods, even when I want to be left alone. You always give me advice, even if I don't listen to it. You always love me unconditionally and I do the same.

...how much I love that you push me. I'm stubborn and I know it. I'm not always little miss sunshine, especially when I have my mind set on something. However, I love that you are always pushing me to become better. You know what I'm capable of and you don't let me hold back. I might get annoyed sometimes, but I know you do everything for a reason. I never would've learned how to wash dishes, do laundry, cook, stand up for myself, or be a bargain shopper without you.

...how much I love our late night talks. Yeah, it's mostly about guys, but you always listen no matter what. Sometimes I just need to vent and you're the perfect person to vent to. I trust you more than anyone and you will always have my back, even in the roughest of times.

...how much I love our adventures. The shopping trips, dinners, spontaneous day trips -- it's all amazing. We might not be doing the typical "mom and daughter bonding" stuff, but that's what we like and I love every moment of it. Those are the memories I'm going to remember forever.

...how much I love that you never give up on me. I might be a pain. I might do things you don't like. I might have to learn the hard way sometimes, but you always have my back. I love you for this.

I love that you're my mom. There isn't anyone in this entire world I would rather have as my mom more than you. You're my best friend, my support system, my role model. I love you so much and I hope that someday I will be able to become as great a mom as you.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
