10 Reasons Why My Mom Is My Best Friend

Everyone always says a daughter’s best friend is her mother. Some may disagree, but I find this to be 100% true. I could go on for days talking about all of the reasons my mom is my best friend. Here a just a few of those reasons:

1. She wants what's best for me

At the end of the day, no matter what my mom always wants what’s best for me. Even if it means having to play the bad guy sometimes, in the end it is for my own good. I know she may not agree with all of the decisions I make; however, in the end, she always wants the best for me.

2. She supports me

My mom is my biggest and best support system. Even if it is something she might not agree with she will support me no matter what. She encourages me to be the best that I can be and to try my hardest no matter what. She is what keeps me motivated.

3. I can talk to her about anything

Although she may be a mom now, she was once my age. I feel comfortable talking to my mom about anything and everything. She is understanding and truly cares about me.

4. She knows how to handle any situation

I always know I can count on my mom for advice. Whether it’s trouble with friends or even struggles at work, she knows how to handle it. She can relate to many of the different problems I may have and knows the right and wrong ways to handle these problems. I can call my mom any time asking her for advice and she always makes time for me.

5. She taught me valuable life lessons

My mom is very wise. Although she may be weird and goofy, she has taught me many valuable lessons in my life. These lessons have helped me to get where I am and will continue to help me succeed. She has taught me things like how to respect myself, what hard work looks like, even how to cook. Most importantly, she taught me how to be strong.

6. She makes me laugh

The best times with my mom are nights spent laughing and having fun. She may be getting old, but she is still as goofy as ever. I can always count on my mom to cheer me up with her weird dance moves or her “funny” jokes.

7. She cooks for me

There is nothing better than a home cooked meal from my mom. After long days at school eating fast food or whatever I have time to grab, I love to come home to a meal from my mom.

8. She tells me the truth when I need to hear it

It may not be what I want to hear, but my mom will always tell me what I need to hear. I can always count on my mom to be honest with me and tell me the truth. Friends won’t always tell you truth, worrying they might upset you. Although it may upset me at the time, my mom is looking out for me.

9. She is a great shopping partner

My mom is my favorite person to go shopping with. Not only do we have fun together, I can count on her to tell me what looks good and what doesn’t.

10. She will love me through it all

I know at the end of the day, no matter what, my mom still loves me. She loves me through the meltdowns, bratty attitudes, and all of the mistakes I may make. She is the one person I can always count on. She is my best friend.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
