Thank You Mom And Dad

A thank you to the most wonderful people in my life.

Thank You Mom And Dad

Thank you, Mom and Dad, for always believing in me. You have always been my biggest supporters, and I don't think I've thanked you enough for it. So, thank you. Since I was little, you both have always pushed me to do my best and told me that I can do whatever I want as long as I work at it. You've never given up on me even when I've been difficult, and I appreciate it.

Dad, thank you for being my best friend. Ever since I was a little, I've always been "Daddy's little girl." You and I are so alike that anyone can guess that I'm your daughter. You might not have realized this before, but our "father-daughter" day each August means the world to me. I look forward to that day every year because it's just a day for the two of us. Even when I'm older and in my late 20's, I'm going to make sure that we still have that day, because it's that special to me. I enjoy watching TV shows with you that make us both laugh our heads off and make Mom roll her eyes at us. I might frustrate you sometimes and you might frustrate me, but I always know that you will always be there whenever I need you.

Mom, thank you for always checking in on me. I can always count on a phone call or a text message from you, and I appreciate every single one. I know I haven't told you this before, but I do look forward to the days that you and I go scrap-booking, because it's something that I can do with you that I can't do with Dad or anyone else. It's truly something special for just you and I. Like a lot of moms and daughters, we may disagree a lot, but that's what makes us, us. I know that I don't tell you that I love you enough and I'm sorry. I love you, and I hope you don't think otherwise.

You both supported me in my decision of college and major. Despite my major being unique, you both never questioned it, especially when I decided to double major. I'm the way I am today because of the way that you raised me and influenced me throughout my life. Thank you for that. You both came to every school event that you could, and it meant the world to me to know that you were there. I can honestly say that I have two wonderful parents. You always have my back, and I know that I can come to you with anything.

So thank you, Mom and Dad, for everything you do and know that I appreciate every part of it. I love you both.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
