Contrary to what all kids say or think about their moms growing up, I guess a sign of maturity comes when you realize “your mom is your best friend.”
‘Tis the season for being thankful.
Everyone knows that there are times when you think your mom is being impractical or “ruining your life,” but trust me, all she really wants is the best for you no matter what. I consider myself fortunate to have a mom that I can say is my best friend. These are only 6 of the many reasons you can be thankful for your mom.
1. Her heart is always in the right place.
Even when you may not think she is leading you in the right direction, you have to understand that she believes she knows what will be the best for you in the short- and long-run.
2. She can speak to you all day long and always find the time to listen.
Questions about the weather and what you’re wearing. Are you dressed properly for a cold day, a sporting event or a business meeting. If you’re having a good day or a bad day, moms have a way of reading between the lines, they can hear it in your voice.
3. She wants to spend as much time with you as you will allow.
Special times with my mom are getting our nails done, shopping, going for brunch, and gossiping. My favorite are those cozy nights at home just watching a movie. Being in college, this is one of the things I miss most, and look forward to when I go home.
4. A mother's love is unconditional.
No matter what decision you make in life, your mom will love you for who you are. She will trust your judgment in making the right choice; however, may give you different guidelines along life’s path.
5. She will always be there for you.
If you are facing social problems, hard decisions, a bad day, or pretty much anything, you can count on your mom for being right next to you. If you feel she is interfering, hear her out. Being your best friend, she will call or text you constantly over the next few days until this situation has passed.
6. She is the best role model you could have asked for.
When we were younger, we all imagined our moms being the meanest and the strictest in the world. However, as the years passed, seeing our moms in all different scenarios, whether they were the homemaker or a working parent, we aspired to become like them.
There are many more reasons to be thankful if your mom has become your best friend. Say thank you once in a while and appreciate all she has done.
Mom, you know how much I cherish our friendship and I am forever thankful for you and love you so much.
