As many piano players probably know, there are some songs which are made for piano and some which are not. For example, most rap songs? Not really piano material (though in some cases it's possible to make it work).
But if you'd like to be able to play songs that your friends can sing or dance to (which isn't always possible with some of the more obscure classical pieces you learn during piano lessons), here are five of my personal favorites.
1. "All of Me" by John Legend
This one still makes me a little emotional whenever I hear or play it. The slow and smooth-yet strong-melody is perfect for piano
2. "Happy" by Pharrel Williams
As tired as you may have gotten of hearing this one on the radio, there's no denying the sheer energy that goes into playing this song. Unlike the calmer melodies on this list, this one starts off fast-paced and stays that way.
3. "When I Was Your Man" by Bruno Mars
You should play this song when you have the chance. And while you're at it, hold its hand and buy it flowers too. Before it finds someone better than you.
4. "Piano Man" by Billy Joel
As the title suggests, this song is about a man who plays the piano. As such, it seems like an appropriate song itself for piano-playing.
5. "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran
This song is perfect to play. It's similar to "All of Me" in both its message and its pacing.
For all of these songs, there's an abidance of sheet music out there that will show you how to play them. For beginners, there are also tutorials which are fairly simple but still fun to learn and play.
Happy playing!
